The international runways are never short on providing new beauty inspiration, and the recent spring/summer shows from New York, London, Milan and Paris proved that the ‘cool-girl’ vibe is here to stay. As for the key to nailing this effortless look, it’s all in the hair; and this season, it’s time to swap out dishevelled texture created with tongs or straighteners with leave-in products that are easy to use (it really is as simple as spritzing it in) and nourishing for your locks. We asked three leading hairstylists to lend us their best tips for creating this light and airy blow-dry, as seen at the Altuzarra spring/summer show in Paris.
1
With a lotion
You can’t go past a smoothing hair lotion that tames frizz and gives an all-round polished finish to your blow-dry, especially one enriched with softening argan oil. “On damp hair, apply two pumps of Moroccanoil Blow Dry Concentrate with one pump of Moroccanoil Smoothing Lotion all over your mid-lengths and ends,” says Peter Beckett, hairstylist and brand ambassador for Moroccanoil. “This cocktail will give you lots of shine with sleek control.” Then, use a hairdryer and a paddle brush to dry and smooth hair.
2
With a serum
A serum is a lightweight solution to boosting shine in dull hair, and it can also make hair feel softer and become more manageable. “Work a mousse, such as Mr. Smith Mousse into towel-dried hair to create lift, then use a wand (such as Cloud Nine The Waving Wand) to wrap hair away from the face,” says hairstylist Elyston Hayden. “Once it’s all set, finish by spritzing your hair with O&M Frizzy Logic Shine Serum for a light hold with lots of high shine.”
3
With a heat protectant
A heat-protecting spray can do much more than protect your tresses from hot tools. Hairstylist Renya Xydis explains: “Start with clean, air-dried hair and spritz it with Wella Professionals EIMI Thermal Image to protect hair from dangerously high heat and provide a light hold. Once hair has soaked up all of the heat protectant and dried off, run a flat iron over the roots and to the bottom of your ears for a smooth finish. Then, using a wide curling iron , wrap un-ironed hair around the shaft, hold for five seconds and release. Finish off by spraying hair with a flexible hold hairspray, allow to dry completely and then use a bristle pin brush to brush hair out for a soft, effortless and undone angel wave.”
If hair accessories are more your thing, here are three ways to jazz up your hair this season.
