Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt have co-signed this new-to-Australia skin care brand
They even have the same fave product
Call it part of our jobs (yes, we're blessed), or call it a constant desire to know what's new and next in the world of beauty, but when a new brand launches onto Aussie shores we are keen to learn more.
So, when we heard that the seriously celeb and makeup artist-loved brand Fig.1 was coming to MECCA, we just had to find out more. Thankfully, BEAUTYcrew got the opportunity to sit down with co-founder and certified dermatologist Dr Courtney Rubin to chat all things Fig.1 and of course get the lowdown on the celeb-loved products...
Meet Fig.1 Skin Care
Picture this, you're watching a brilliant doctor admire her products on Sydney shelves for the very first time, which is exactly what BEAUTYcrew got to witness when we went to interview Dr Rubin. We sat down and launched into all the questions we needed to get the tea on.
How did you make the call to branch out from dermatology into skin care?
Being from L.A. Dr Rubin has been treating a range of clientele for many years (*ahem* celebs included), but what really struck her was that the products she would be recommending her patients were expensive. We're talking hundreds of dollars a bottle. So, with her dermatology insights and science-backed approach to skincare Dr Rubin launched Fig.1. Impressive, right?
Does the name have any significance?
Like we said, having a backed-by-science approach to skincare is seriously important to the founder, so when coming up with a name, they thought it would be a fun nod (and to serve as a reminder) to scientific reference books, where the first image is labelled 'Figure 1'.
The packaging obviously offers sustainable choices, is that a big part of your ethos?
So, from looking at the packaging, we can instantly see that the hefty glass bottles are air-tight (great for ensuring ingredient life-span) and ensure that we're not putting our grubby hands all over an applicator that goes back into a bottle. But the best thing about the bottles is that they're easily re-fillable. AKA our fave eco-conscious decision. So, we just had to ask if any of their other practises encourage sustainability.
The answer? Yes! Making choices to ensure responsible practises when sourcing ingredients is key. Ethical-sourced ingredients and refillable, reusable packaging has us sold. But what products do we want to pick up?
Do you have any products you swear by?
Well, Dr Rubin has a clear favourite child in her skin care line (sorry to the rest, she loves you too), and we can tell why. For most people, incorporating a retinol into your skin care routine can be scary and hard to decide on. Thankfully, Fig.1 offer an easy-to-follow three-stepped approach.
Developed with many of Dr Rubin's acne-prone clients in mind, the Fig.1 Retinol Night Cream ($70 at MECCA) allows people to start at step one, increasing retinol potency as they go up the line. But what we found extra interesting about this retinol, is that it's actually a cream. Yep. Gone are they days of drying retinol affects, because this nourishing cream is ready to give you the best of both worlds.
Claire Holt And Phoebe Tonkin's Fave Fig.1 Product
Turns out our girls Emma and Cleo *ahem* Holt and Tonkin are still sharing secrets with each other. Because we've spotted this exact same product in both of their skin care routines, the Fig.1 Micellar Oil Cleanser ($37 at MECCA). The oil-to-milk textured cleanser is naturally packed with ultra-hydrating, skin-cleansing ingredients. And like the rest of the nourishing, environmentally-conscious range this cleanser can easily be re-filled.
Spy the gorgeous green bottle in Holt's Instagram post below that shows she's been a fan for a while and clearly shared the line with Tonkin. Who, of course shared it with us, via a Vogue Beauty Secrets interview where she spills her, well. secrets.
And as if we needed any more reason to head out and purchase the skin-loving range, it's all available to shop (fairly affordably) at MECCA. Don't mind us, we're just adding it all to cart...
