Dior just showed us a new way to wear eyeliner
It’s both parts creepy AND pretty
Dior somehow just made clown makeup look good at the Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019 runway show. Yep – clown makeup. We didn’t think it was possible for this to ever be a thing, but we’re actually kind of into it.
Models took to the runway showing off thick, graphic black eyeliner looks with pointed teardrops, embracing the magical circus runway theme that was Dior Dream Parade.
Just look at this:
And this:
The idea behind the fantastical bold makeup look is courtesy of Creative and Image Director of Christian Dior Makeup, Peter Philips. He says of the makeup, “I chose a dark and graphic messy look, with a pattern that blends a punk aesthetic with a dreamy Pierrot feel. All the emphasis was on the eyes, which are intriguing, and draw you in.”
Pretty cool, huh? And if you’re game enough to break it out, it’s pretty easy to copy.
Philips says he started by curling the lashes then framed the eyes with black liner. “I circled the eyes completely with a thick dense line of black using the Dior On Stage Liner Matte Black Pen. Then, aligned with the pupil, I drew a vertical line that goes down to create a Pierrot effect.”
The best part? The messier, the better! “After that I smudged any lines that were too sharp, and blurred the edges with Crayon Eyeliner Waterproof Noir Trinidad for a more punk and less perfect effect. Lastly, I applied a line of Diorshow Khol Black to the upper and lower waterlines so that the eyes were completely ringed in black.”
Look at you, you pretty mess.
To finish, Philips used the cult-favourite Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation (psst…this formula also works wonders for dry skin!) for the models’ velvety, matte complexion.
