Riley Keough wears 4 different cream cheek products in 'Daisy Jones & The Six'

And an eyeshadow colour coordinated to her fiery red hair

The story of Daisy Jones & The Six is no doubt a rollercoaster for its titular character. And when it comes to TV, few things (literally) paint the picture of a person’s journey like makeup.

The show’s Makeup Department Head Rebecca Wachtel used makeup as a powerful storytelling tool, allowing it to take Daisy Jones’s face on the same wild journey she went on personally.

“Daisy starts out as a fresh-faced, naturally glowing '70s girl [but] as she becomes famous, we see her aesthetic shift,” Wachtel explains to BEAUTYcrew. “She starts out with warmer makeup tones for her eyes and as her drug use and the tour progresses, we see her slowly fall apart through her makeup.”

Wondering which products Wachtel used to build the story? We spoke to her to find out…

The exact makeup Daisy wears in 'Daisy Jones & The Six': Daisy's natural look

“Early ‘70s Daisy is carefree [so I would] let the natural beauty shine through,” Wachtel explains of Daisy’s daily look. But hey, carefree doesn’t necessarily mean low-maintenance. A whole lot of layering (using four different creamy cheek products) went into Daisy’s signature sunny glow.

“[To replicate the look, start with] light foundation, then use cream blush along the cheeks, high points and bridge of the nose, wherever the sun would kiss. [Add] cream highlighter on the apple of cheeks and high cheekbones, [and then] cream bronzer around the frame of the face, with a touch on the bridge of the nose.”

Her everyday ‘Daisy’ kit heroed an array of cheek products in particular: SOL Body Bronzer ($22.91 at Colour Pop), Julie Hewett Los Angeles Cheekie in ‘Rosie’ ($43 at Julie Hewett Los Angeles), RMSBeauty LipShine in ‘Enchanted’ ($25USD at Credo Beauty, but not currently shipping to Australia) and Evanhealy Glow Balm in ‘Luna’ ($19.95 at Smallflower, currently waitlisted).

The perfect way to polish off Daisy’s go-to look? A bit of brow gel “to create individual hairs” and a swipe of “clear gloss over natural [coloured] lips”.

Wachtel relied on the Lime Crime Bushy Brow Precision Pen ($24.22 at Revolve) and a combo of the Kosas Kosasport LipFuel Hyaluronic Lip Balm in ‘Rush’ ($30 at MECCA) and Lime Crime Wet Cherry Lip Gloss in ‘Extra Poppin’ ($22.61 at Revolve) for her daily glam.

An element that was added to Daisy's everyday look later? A bit of finely-milled metallic copper shadow that followed (spoiler alert) her trip abroad and her subsequent marriage. The specific shadow? Rituel de Fille Ash and Ember Eye Soot in ‘Love Spell’ ($65 at MECCA).

“She wears this returning from Greece and at stages afterward as a wash on her eyelid,” Wachtel explains, also sharing the reason for the colour choice: “It matched her hair”.

The exact makeup Daisy wears in 'Daisy Jones & The Six': Daisy's stage look

As for her edgier on-stage persona, it's all about a bolder eye and lip combo. “Rockstar Daisy [wears] a cooler eyeshadow tone in a triangle-like pulled out shape with gel eyeliner also applied messily in a cat-like shape,” Wachtel confirms. "[The vibe is] still deconstructed and imperfect [but with statement looks like] a red tone lip."

“[Actress] Riley [Keough]’s only request was to use blue eyeshadow at some point, and we did,” says Wachtel. “It ended up being my favourite look! It’s one of her shows on tour when she is in the height of her drug use before it takes a turn for the worse. Her skin tone is washed out and shiny, her eyes have a brilliant blue eyeshadow and her lips are a deep red. She's a little bit of a mess to represent her emotional state at the time.”

The products behind said stage look? M.A.C Satin Eye Shadow in Triennial Wave ($32 at Myer), Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow in ‘Metallic Comex Platinum’ ($22.95 at Cosmetics Now) and Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel ($37 at Inglot Cosmetics) for eyes, with M.A.C Cosmetics Lip Pencil in ‘Brick’ ($34 at Adore Beauty) on lips.

And that's how to do your makeup like Daisy Jones! We must warn you: musical talent and rollercoaster relationship not included.
