6 areas prone to ageing (& how to protect them)
Time to take better care of these forgotten areas
Time to take better care of these forgotten areas
The good news is that it’s never too late to reverse the effects of ageing. Just remember that taking care of your skin is a daily process – here’s what you need to do.
1
Décolletage
Why? Years spent sleeping on your side and not extending your skin care down your neck can have this area showing early signs of wrinkles.
What to do? Start caring for it like you would your face – cleanse, moisturise and always follow with SPF.
2
Hands
Why? They’re always exposed to the elements, particularly incidental sun damage, and it’s an area we don’t think about.
What to do? Apply sunscreen to the back of your hands – keep a tube handy in the car for driving – and use a rich hand cream overnight.

3
Neck
Why? It looks older before other areas because the skin is thinner than on our face and it’s sensitive to UV rays.
What to do? Use the anti-ageing creams used on your face, and apply in an upward motion.
4
Cheeks
Why? You lose collagen in your face as you age, so it can actually work in your favour – and keep you looking younger – if you’re not too thin. Dark spots or hyper-pigmentation become more prominent, too.
What to do? Up the moisture levels by adopting a more thorough skin care routine of serum, day/night cream and daily exfoliation – and enjoy some ‘good’ fats in your diet.
5
Knees
Why? The skin here loses its elasticity, causing a saggy look, and small fat deposits might start to make your knees look a bit lumpy.
What to do? Start applying a firming cream every morning and night to tighten problem areas, and pair this with workouts that support knee strength, such as lunges and squats.

6
Elbows
Why? We rest on them and bend them hundreds of times during a day, so the loose skin tends to sag.
What to do? Treat them with the care you give the rest of your exposed body, and remember to exfoliate and moisturise them.
