Playing super villain, Harley Quinn was no easy feat for Aussie star Margot Robbie. According to Hollywood Reporter, to get in shape for her role in Suicide Squad, Margot worked out for up to three hours a day with trainer Andie Hecker, owner of Ballet Bodies in Los Angeles.
Hecker revealed that Margot combined Pilates, ballet and cardio workouts to get in shape and said they would “mix in non-bulking cardio such as jump rope, rebounder and ballet jumps – which are surprisingly the most challenging form of cardio I’ve ever come across.”
Hecker also mentioned that due to Margot’s character, Harley Quinn’s barely there costume, they focused on toning, lifting and building the muscles in her glutes through ballet.
In addition to ballet Hecker opted for “a lot of heavy-weighted, low reps of arabesque pulls hooked up to resistance pulleys, as well as arabesque lifts with heavy ankle weights in order to build and lift the butt.”
To round out the training on her lower body, Margot “did a ton of side series outer thigh work, targeting outer glutes wit high reps and low weight, to pull those muscles in and create a beautiful line from the waist to the upper thigh,” Hecker said.
If you're looking to try your own Margot Robbie-inspired workout you can try Ballet Barre, KX pilates, and Barre Attack classes to help tone and shape your glutes and quads.
