Blake Lively reveals red hair for her role in ‘It Ends With Us’
The literary world is in uproar after the leading roles for the movie adaption of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us were announced. But Blake Lively’s new red hair might help fans envision her as the novel’s protagonist, Lily Bloom.
Yep, in case you haven’t heard, Lively will play Lily while Justin Baldon will embody love interest, Ryle Kincaid.
Some criticism of the casting choices comes from the fact that Lily is described as a 23-year-old ‘bold, brave and compassionate woman’ with (very importantly) red hair.
So naturally, Lively’s signature blonde mane and 35-year-old status raised some eyebrows. But now, she’s officially a redhead again…
Blake Lively’s new red hair
Shortly after her role as Lily was confirmed, Lively shared an image to her Instagram Stories where her blonde hair was swapped for a deep auburn shade.
To ensure we got the message, the song “Lily (My One And Only)” by the Smashing Pumpkins was chosen to accompany the post.
And while we’re dying to see more photos of her hair transformation (is it real? Is it a wig?) we can certainly envision a redheaded Lively thanks to her dabbling with the hair shade in the past.
Back in 2011, she sported a Jessica Rabbit-eqsue mane on many red carpets, and in 2018 she wore a wig for her role in The Rhythm Section.
So although TikTok is adamant the role of Lily should’ve been given to Abigail Cowen, it looks like Lively is committed to seeing this movie through.
As for the age factor? Let’s not forget actors often play much younger characters — Ben McKenzie was 25 when he played 17-year-old Ryan Atwood in The O.C. and we all bought it, hook, line and sinker.

Lively isn’t the only celebrity who switches between blonde and red hair.
