8 beauty trends we're not bringing into 2025, according to our editors
You're done
Considering we all love a classic 'new year, new me' moment, you might think our editors are all about a completely clean slate when it comes to beauty trends. But nope, we're big enough fans of some (think Sabrina Carpenter's bouncy blowout or Hailey Bieber's glazed skin) to let 'em stay.
You better believe we've already turned to a whole slew of experts to officially name the top hair trends, skin trends, and nail trends we're expecting to see a ton of over the next 12 months, and honestly, a fair few 2024 faves are still going strong.
However, there are some we're simply refusing to allow into 2025. Look, our opinions might be a bit controversial, but here are the beauty trends the BEAUTYcrew team are done with for the year ahead...
Beauty trends to retire in 2025
Baby bangs
"Maybe it was the renaissance of Beetlejuice’s Lydia Deetz’s bangs on the big screen (which IMHO, are scarier than the film’s namesake villain), but after trying a TikTok filter that showed me what I’d look like with a set of the things, I came to a harsh realisation: not everyone is Zoë Kravitz. And not everyone should emulate Zoë Kravitz’s haircuts" — Delaney, BEAUTYcrew's Editor
Elaborate eye makeup
"If it’s a cut crease circa 2016, or a 25 pan eyeshadow palette, I’m out. I genuinely cannot be bothered with the faff of it all. I’m campaigning for the return of eyeshadow singles you can simply swipe on without much thought and a mere whisper of mascara" — Briar, BEAUTYcrew's Beauty Editor
Unblended lip liner
"I’m all for the comeback of the iconic ‘90s lip, and a brown lip liner with a clear or nude gloss is perfection. But please, please, PLEASE blend your liner. Blending won’t make your liner wear off any faster – but the trick is to blend inwards using your finger or a brush to create a seamless ombre effect. The result is stuh-ning" — Georgia, BEAUTYcrew's Social Editor
New blush trends every 5 minutes
"Look we’re all a little blush blind, but do we need a new trend every week? Probs not! We’re not saying don’t experiment with your makeup but we think it’s worth saving yourself the stress of trying to keep up with the new (and undoubtedly food-related) blush trends in 2025" — Emma, BEAUTYcrew's Content Producer
The 'mob wife' aesthetic
“As someone scarred from too many dance concerts involving burgundy lipstick and charcoal eyeshadow, I find the ‘mob wife’ aesthetic personally offensive, at least on my face. It’s too harsh, it makes everyone look older than they actually are, and whilst I’m a diehard winged liner fan, black liner on a lower lashline makes me feel physically ill" — Delaney, BEAUTYcrew's Editor
Fake tan contour
"Sporting a healthy, sun kissed glow year round is something we all want, but I draw the line at contouring with fake tan. Unless you’re blending the stuff properly, it’s too easy to end up with a face full of tiger-striped tan marks. Hard pass" — Briar, BEAUTYcrew's Beauty Editor
Following beauty influencers religiously
"Don’t get me wrong, I love scrolling beautytok for all the latest releases and recommendations and can yap about any OG beauty Youtuber drama for days (IYKYK). But there’s a reason why so many beauty influencers get cancelled regularly. Aside from posting paid content without properly disclosing it, a lot of influencer content just feels staged and stale. And we all know the disappointment of spending money on a hyped-up product that is actually just mid, so please take your research beyond your FYP" — Georgia, BEAUTYcrew's Social Editor
Hoarding too much skin care
"Do we need a 10 step skin care routine? Look, no, and we’ve been seriously guilty of buying up big without a lot of thought. So, that’s why 2025 is our year of really focusing in on what active ingredients do our skin the most good and buying the hardest working cosmeceutical versions of them." — Emma, BEAUTYcrew's Content Producer
