3 of the biggest beauty trends coming out of London

The new looks you’re bound to fall in love with
Fashion week beauty looks often go one of two ways: pared-back and natural to ensure the clothing is the star of the show, or bold, daring and next-level. The Spring/Summer 2019 shows at London Fashion Week were the latter. Bare skin and cool-girl waves made way for bold lips, bedazzled eye makeup and slicked-back ‘dos. Although skin is still very much ‘in’, for the rest of the beauty look makeup artists, hairstylists and designers alike traded in classic nudes and muted hues for vibrant shades and glittery products to serve up some seriously Instagram-worthy trends. These are our three favourite beauty trends from the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 shows.
#1 / Glitter makeup
Shimmering eye makeup is making a comeback. But rather than simply applying it sporadically over the lid and hoping for the best, the new glitter makeup trend involves strategic placement for maximum impact. Take the look at the Halpern show; makeup artist, Isamaya Ffrench applied a dramatic winged line (taking the flick out as far as the temple), before connecting it with a line that followed the natural crease of the eyelid. Ffrench’s hollow wing was then used as a stencil of sorts, where glitter was pressed into the empty space.
Similarly, speckles of glitter were applied to the inner half of each model’s eyelid at the Simone Rocha show. While you may be more likely to use a lighter hand than lead makeup artist Sam Bryant did, if you were attempting to recreate the look, applying highly-pigmented glitter to the inner half of your lid is sure to brighten and open your eyes, giving them a celestial sparkle. If we have our way, this is a trend that will hang around for a while!
#2 / Pushed-back hair
If you’ve been paying attention to many of the red carpet hair looks in recent months, you will have noticed celebrities favouring hairstyles that accentuate their facial features. Well, the trend has infiltrated the world of fashion. Models at a number of shows sported pulled-back hairstyles. Perhaps the best thing about this trend is how versatile it is. From power ponytails at Emilia Wickstead to the relaxed finish at Victoria Beckham and the ‘fresh out of the shower’ style at House of Holland, the pushed-back hairstyle (and all its different forms) is a trend we’re sure we’ll be seeing everywhere in the coming months.
#3 / Statement lips
It may not be a groundbreaking trend, but statement lips are back. After taking a backseat to nude shades and ‘my lips but better’ hues in recent years, bright and bold lipstick has become popular again, according to the looks at Ryan Lo, Fyodor Golan and Marta Jakubowski. Whether you opt for a highly-pigmented and glossy lip, a stained berry finish or something in between, a statement lip delivers effortless glamour in a single swipe.
