The surprising product Shay Mitchell uses as a highlighter
Now you too can copy Shay’s on point glow
We love Shay Mitchell for a variety of reasons: her cool girl attitude, her willingness to take beauty risks and of course, because her contour and highlight is always on point. Recently, Shay spoke to Glamour to share the palettes she loves the most from her recent collaboration with Smashbox, as well as some of her beauty secrets, including the surprising product she uses to highlight and contour her cheeks.
According to the Pretty Little Liars actress, strobing and contouring are two must-dos when it comes to her beauty routine. And it turns out, Shay is as much of a fan of multi-tasking products as we are. “I honestly love to use the Smashbox palettes for my highlight. Yes they’re eyeshadows but I still use them all over,” she revealed. Shay is of course referring to the eyeshadow palettes she released in collaboration with Smashbox.
When it comes to choosing the right shades for the perfect glow, Shay recommends starting with the shimmery white shade in the Smashbox Matte Palette. “First, I blend it into my brow bone with a fluffy brush and just on top of my cheekbone with an angled brush, and then I’ll go over it with a sheer shimmery shade from the Metallic palette,” she explained. While using two shades to highlight might seem unnecessary for some, Shay says the added shimmer “just pops it out a little more so it catches the light.”
And that’s not all! Shay also revealed that she uses the “darker, deep brown [shade] under my cheekbones to contour.” While Shay Mitchell and Smashbox's Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palettes have not yet made their way to Australian shores, we have no doubt you'd be able to find similar shades and finishes in your own eyeshadow collection and go-to neutral palettes to copy the star's highlighting and contouring hack.
If you have pale skin and just can’t seem to get traditional highlighters to work on your skin, then this genius product has got you covered.
