The hair colours, cuts and styles that'll be huge this spring
Expert trend predictions for the season
With every new season comes new trends, and this spring is no exception!
So what’s going to be hot for hair you ask?
We asked the experts what colours and cuts they’re expecting to see lot's of once the warmer weather hits...
#1 Pops of pastel
If you’ve ever wanted to dye your hair a bright colour but have been a little hesitant to take such a big jump, this trend could be for you!
“This spring, expect to see fun splashes of pastel tones, ranging from rose and coral through to lavender and denim,” says Larissa Bresnehan, Goldwell Colour Specialist at Mazí Hair, Hobart.
“Lightening your hair will be required to achieve many of these shades; which can be applied in a variety of ways. Be bold and completely colour your hair or apply over balayage or foil work for softer versions.”
These tones aren’t just limited to lighter hair, though.
“It can be just as striking added as a glaze over a darker based balayage,” Larissa adds. “Try keeping your natural regrowth to give a more wearable look. Goldwell's Elumen Play range is great for a temporary and exciting colour change that lasts up to 10-15 washes.”
#2 Subtle Face Frames
We’ve seen the ‘E-Girl’ hair trend take off on social media, particularly on TikTok – but spring is about a more subtle version of the streaky style.
“We will see a more natural face frame gaining popularity,” says Jaye Edwards, EdwardsAndCo Founder, Director and Colourist. “A bright frame around the front hairline customised after a balayage or foiling will really lift your complexion and make your colour pop. It also really increases the longevity of a colour, growing out very softly with minimal upkeep.”
#3 Warm wash
You don’t have to commit to foils or dye to refresh your locks come spring.
“Getting that healthy spring colour can be as simple as giving your hair a good gloss,” says Laura Brand, Goldwell Colour Expert at SHIBUI Melbourne.
“Using a slightly deeper, warmer gloss to refresh your tired hair can do wonders as a quick refresh. Not only will the colour look glorious, but the hair will benefit greatly from the nourishing properties of a gloss! Blondes can go for a honey colour that will add a soft shine, while brunettes can go for something a bit richer!”
#4 Natural Copper x Strawberry Blonde
Warmer weather = warmer hues.
“Strong, natural-looking copper tones, as well as peachy, pastel strawberry blonde tones are making a huge comeback,” Jaye tells us. “Vibrant red has taken the back seat as we work to amplify the natural beauty of red hair by adding soft, warm tones. It's a bold look, but when paired with lighter undertones, it gives a 'born with it' rather than 'from the bottle' look.”
#5 The French Bob
The lob haircut has undoubtedly been one of the most popular lengths over the years, but come spring 2020 it's going to be all about the shorter French bob.
“The French bob is cheekbone-skimming and effortlessly chic," says Jaye. "It not only saves on blow-drying time but also absolutely nails the relaxed vibe we love here at EdwardsAndCo. It is the perfect style for those wanting to embrace a more individual look and enhance their hairs volume and texture.”
#6 The Shag
Get ready to rock ‘n’ roll with this edgy hairstyle.
“The shag is a versatile look that is suited to all hair textures,” says Alexandra Kontos, Styling Specialist at Mazí Hair, Hobart.
“This style can be customised to each individual, through the use of length. Famous for its textured fringe, face-framing layers and choppy ends, this effortless look, [is at its] best when left to air-dry.”
#7 '70s Bangs
Get ready for a major #throwback with this quintessential 1970s look.
“This spring we will be seeing a choppy and modern interpretation of the iconic '70s bangs, originally made famous by Farrah Fawcett,” Jaye tells BEAUTYcrew.
“With bangs parted in the middle and cut to curve the cheekbones, it’s soft and effortless, and works with long, lob, and shorter French bob-length haircuts alike.”
