Smashbox has created a new way to apply foundation
Could this be the secret to a flawless base?
Could this be the secret to a flawless base?
Although makeup applicators have always been a popular facet of the beauty world, it seems like there's been a recent renaissance in the area, with a range of different techniques and tools gaining traction worldwide. We need only look to the hype that surrounded the launch of the Silisponge last year or the unorthodox brushes that continue to take the Internet by storm to see exactly that.
And if makeup brand Smashbox’s latest release is anything to go by, that run of discovering new and unique ways to apply foundation isn’t going to end any time soon.
The new product release from the popular brand is the Photo Filter Gel Cushion Applicator, which features fingerprint-like grooves that are said to grab and blend foundation just like your fingers would, but without the mess.
The supposed benefit of these indents revolves around its ability to provide a smooth and even application, without wasting product due to absorption (a common side effect of using a makeup sponge, and even your fingers to a smaller degree). Additionally, if cleaned after each use, the gel cushion is said to be a more sanitary way to apply base products than your fingers, as dirt, germs and oil can easily be transferred onto the skin when foundation is blended with this method.
While we’re certainly intrigued by the new launch, we are interested to see how the gel cushion works in practice when it launches in Australia on August 29th in Mecca Maxima stores. Our main questions revolve around how the fingerprint grooves actually assist in the blending of liquid products, as well as discovering how that unique feature sets the gel cushion apart from traditional gel applicators already on the market.
Also, as the reason most of us apply foundation with our fingers is because the warmth of our body helps the product melt into the skin to create a more natural looking finish, we’re curious to compare the quality and intensity of the coverage this new applicator provides.
While we all eagerly wait for it to hit shelves in late August, find out why you should already be using three different techniques to blend your foundation.
UPDATE: Smashbox The Photo Filter Gel Cushion Applicator is now available at Mecca Maxima in store and online. You can find it here.
