ICYMI Shani Grimmond is still giving us GRWM content…

We’re in our YouTube beauty era…

Content Producer / March 15 2024

If you’re anything like us, the years 2014 to 2016 were spent binge watching every single beauty tutorial you could get your hands on. Whether it be the likes of the ‘Brit Crew’ (thanks Zoe Sugg) actual makeup artists or our homegrown heroes, if it had makeup in it, we watched it.

This obsession with all things makeup lead us to find the stunning Shani Grimmond, which then lead to us following her for years while she posted get ready with me videos (GRWM), makeup tutorials and honest reviews and first impressions. With MECCA just opening, it was truly a time to be beauty-obsessed in Australia. As the social media shift changed away from YouTube and more towards Instagram and then TikTok, the once-favourited, oh-so-special walk-through makeup videos slipped by the wayside. That was until recently. Grimmond is bringing back the GRWM videos and giving us all her hot takes on what products are actually worth buying.

Grimmond applied a full face of makeup while talking through all the products she loved during 2023, and let us tell you, there’s a few. So, we’ve broken them into their respective categories and given you an easy place to see what she loved throughout the year…

Shani Grimmond’s Favourite Makeup

Shani Grimmond’s favourite foundations

Grimmond is a big fan of trying out different foundations, which is honestly one of the most relatable plights in history, as trying to not aim for Oompa Loompa orange is always the go. So to start off the base, she goes in with the cult-classic Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter ($70 at Charlotte Tilbury), which gives her the most glorious glow.

Now, as we said, Grimmond is on the hunt for her perfect foundation, which currently means she mixes two to get the right shade and glow. Those two foundations are the Beautyblender Bounce Foundation ($47 at Sephora) and the luminous NARS Light Reflecting Foundation ($85 at MECCA). For lightening up under her eyes she’s currently obsessed with the Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer ($74 at Myer) and with a creamy consistency like that, we get it.

Shani Grimmond’s favourite cheek products

This is where Grimmond flexes her makeup artistry, effortlessly layering products over one another to get the bronzed, blushed glow that she loves.

Grimmond starts off her cheek routine with her liquid products to create a more hydrated, creamier base. Step one involves dotting the Tarte Sculpt Tape™ Contour ($60 at Sephora) around her forehead and under her cheekbones, before she then blends that in with her beauty blender. Next she goes in with her Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in the shade ‘Encourage’ ($45 at Sephora) which she muses she thinks might be too dark (and wants to get a coral shade), but maintains her love for. Next she goes in with what she says is the ‘best of the best’ bronzer, that she’ll ‘never get over’. And what earns such high praise? The M.A.C Cosmetics Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in ‘Give Me Sun’ ($70 at Adore Beauty) of course.

For her powder blushes she gives a quick swirl of M.A.C Powder Blush in ‘Fleur Power’ ($49 at M.A.C Cosmetics). And finishing her ‘base’ off with a blush-highlighter hybrid, Grimmond takes the M.A.C Cosmetics Mineralize Blush in ‘New Romance’ ($55 at Adore Beauty) for the ultimate illuminated flush.

Shani Grimmond’s favourite brow gel

Grimmond keeps her manicured brows tamed with one simple product: The Complete Brow Brow Sculpt ($34.99 at The Complete Brow). Fluffing up her brows like a dream, this gel no doubt provides superior hold.

Shani Grimmond’s favourite lip combo

We’re not afraid to admit this: Grimmond’s lip combo is so to die for, we headed to the shops (i.e the internet) to buy every single product to create her luscious lacquered lips ourselves. And the look is surprisingly simple. Made up of just three products, Grimmond’s lip look starts with her lining her lips with Make Up For Ever Artist Color Pencil in ‘600 Anywhere Caffeine’ ($35 at Adore Beauty), a colour she said she loved on a friend of hers so much she had to get it herself (relatable). Then she goes in with the nourishing Dior Addict Shine Lipstick in ‘100 Nude Look’ ($66 at Adore Beauty) that Grimmond likes to use because she feels it doesn’t leave her lips ‘crusty’ as it wears off (again, relatable). And to finish the trending lip look off, she layers over the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, we think in the shade ‘Fu$$y’ ($36 at Sephora).

There is one category, however, our girl Grimmond repeatedly leaves out: her eyes. We know she takes her shimmering blush across her lids, but we would love to know what mascara and lashes she uses to achieve that fluttering luscious look.

So if you thought that the days of watching makeup tutorials were over, think again…

Emma Allcock began her career in the world of fashion and beauty in 2015, interning for various PR fashion houses. Naturally her love for style soon extended to beauty, and Emma landed firmly in the beauty and wellness world thanks to an internship-turned-role at local Australian fragrance brand Maison Blanche. One thing that remained consistent whether unpacking accessories or creating social content? Her commitment to an always-perfect manicure. Luckily, she’s since turned her talents to helping her readers achieve the same, writing about all things beauty and wellness. Emma is now a Content Producer for BEAUTYcrew, with her words and recommendations also appearing across Girlfriend and beautyheaven. Emma loves the process of diving deep into the world of testing (and writing) about everything from haircare to fragrance. When she’s not slathering her skin in something new, she’s going for an early morning stroll to catch a stunning sunrise (coffee in hand, of course), because life’s all about that wellness balance after all.
