Robert Pattinson has crowned the ‘best-smelling person he’s ever met’
The image of Robert Pattinson having an iffy reaction to scent is one any Twilight fan is well acquainted with – the picture of him (or rather, Edward Cullen) doing anything in his power to block Bella Swan’s scent in the Forks High School science room is etched into our memories.
And so it’s easy to believe that the man has strong reactions to smells, even outside of his character’s vampiric bloodlust. Well, we’re here to confirm that he does in fact have a few thoughts on the subject of scent, and he kindly shared them in a fascinating conversation with Harper’s Bazaar.
Here are the aromas he calls his favourites, plus his contender for ‘best-smelling person’ – quite an honour indeed!
Robert Pattinson's favourite scents
Gourmand scents
The scents the actor gravitates toward may surprise you – they certainly surprised us... They’re not exactly the type perfumers tend to bottle, but rather the style you’ll find wafting from a kitchen.
“Some scents I like are tomato ketchup and, uh, maybe some steak? I don’t know, toast?”, he joked. “It’s weird. Foods, when you take them out of the context, they’re always gross. If you smelled a person that smelled like a sausage, you’d be like, what is wrong with you? But a sausage smells really nice. In any condition, it has to be associated. They have to be linked. You can’t separate.”
We can’t argue with that. However, if a luxury fragrance house dropped a 'toast' scent, we’d consider it, we can’t lie.
Personal scents
There’s another interesting scent he’s become more of a fan of since becoming a father, too. “Everyone said, “Oh, the smell of babies!” And I really didn’t get it — until you have your own baby", he explained. "My baby smells great! I really still don’t really like the smell of other babies. I think my baby smells different from other babies. It’s not a generic baby smell. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. I think it’s different for women. Once you’ve had a baby, it actually does a physiological thing."
As for the person in his life/the world he thinks smells the best (besides his own baby, naturally), the actor gave a succinct (and smart) answer: “Suki”, he shared, referring to his partner (and the originator of the classic ‘I wash my hair with Coca Cola’ farce), Suki Waterhouse.

Suki Waterhouse perfume
But what does she smell like?! The woman has elite taste in everything, so we have no doubt her fragrance wardrobe is downright stunning. Whilst we haven’t been able to pin down Waterhouse’s current perfume of choice (yet), we did dig up a conversation the singer once had with Grazia where she shared that her favourite fragrances are “light floral smells” and that she loves notes of “lemons, jasmine [and] orange”. Good to know…
With that in mind, we've narrowed down a few fragrances we suggest adding to your personal collection in case you ever come into contact with Pattinson – we may not be able to compete with Waterhouse’s superior scent as the 'best-smelling person in the world', but we can at least play in the same realm! Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Eau De Parfum ($410 at Myer), Aerin Limone Di Sicilia Parfum ($395 at David Jones), and Dior L’or de J’adore Parfum ($422 at Myer) all feature a light floral-citrus blend that we’d bet both Waterhouse and Pattinson would enjoy…
