It’s the news we’ve been looking forward to for months and months: the dreary wintery weather is behind us, and we’re now being rewarded with glorious warm weather, including long, sun-drenched days that seem to put everyone in a good mood. But with all that sunshine comes UV damage, as well as other warm weather conditions, such as humidity and wind, that can wreak havoc on your locks. Fear not - these clever summer hair products promise to get your hair back on track.
The problem: Frizzy hair caused by humidity
Humidity can be a real pain in the backside as it can quickly create frizz and static in your hair; but that doesn’t mean it needs to ruin your day or night out. These products can quickly prevent and reverse the signs of stray hairs caused by humid weather.
Fix it with:
Redken Frizz Dismiss Anti-Static Oil Mist: We love the versatility of this product as it can be used on both damp and dry hair, and is ideal for fine to medium hair types. Spritz it all over to reduce static and frizz without weighing hair down.
John Frieda Frizz Ease Perfect Finishing Polishing Serum: Distribute one to two pumps into the hands and massage the product into mid-lengths and ends to increase shine and manageability. Easy.
Hair Rituel by Sisley Volumizing Spray: We’re fans of voluminous hair, but not the poofy, frizzy kind that humidity creates. If you’re after controlled volume, the secret lies within the prep. After washing your hair, spritz this all over (we’re talking roots, mid-lengths and ends) and blow-dry to increase volume while still protecting locks from humidity.
The problem: knotty hair caused by wind
Whether you’re sunning it up at the beach or hitting up a rooftop pool to celebrate summer in style, these hair fixes can quickly and effectively detangle your strands, so you can have smoother and more manageable hair in no time.
Fix it with:
L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Absolut Repair Gold Quinoa & Protein 10 in 1 Spray: With a staggering *10* benefits, including the ability to detangle, prevent frizz and nourish dry hair, this product is a no-brainer to add to your beach bag this season.
Eleven Australia Miracle Spray Hair Treatment: Following from the success of Eleven Australia’s Miracle Hair Treatment comes the spray version, and we’re just as hooked. “The best thing about the Miracle formula is its multipurpose use,” explains Joey Scandizzo, leading Australian hairstylist and founder of Eleven Australia. “It is the perfect lightweight formula that suits every hair type, and [can] repair split ends, tame frizz and fly-aways, and protect hair from UVA and UVB.” As for the best way to use it, Scandizzo explains: “Spray it onto damp hair from mid-lengths to ends, then use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to distribute it evenly through your hair. Fine hair will need about three to four sprays, and thicker hair will need around five to six sprays.”
Schwarzkopf Professional OSIS+ Soft Texture Dry Conditioner: A dry conditioner is an obvious choice for fine-haired ladies this season due to its lightweight nature. Schwarzkopf Professional’s version is enriched with hydrogenated olive oil, which can hydrate and boost shine at the same time.
The problem: dry hair caused by UV damage
Just like how your skin can dry out from being exposed to the sun for extended periods of time, your hair can suffer in the same way, causing damage. These products are here to restore moisture and keep your hair looking *and* feeling healthy this summer.
Fix it with:
evo Happy Campers Wearable Treatment: Work this lightweight cream into damp or dry hair to increase moisture levels, protect it from UV rays and reduce blow-dry time. “[An] amazing quality of Happy Campers is that there are a couple of ways in which it can be applied,” says Jay Kownacki, Head of Education of evo. “The dual delivery system means it can be sprayed directly into damp hair and air-dried or blow-dried, or for a more concentrated effect, applied as a cream by spraying it directly into your hands.”
Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray: Mist this lightweight argan oil-based spray into your hair to protect it from environmental factors like UV rays and pollution, as well as shield it from heat damage. The clever technology behind this product also ensure that hair stays negatively charged, which prevents fly-aways at the same time.
Christophe Robin Luscious Curl Cream: Thanks to the addition of moringa, this clever product can protect curly locks against the great outdoors, along with heat caused by hot tools (up to 230 degrees) and it can prevent colour oxidation. Pop a small dollop into your palms, then apply the product to dry hair to define each curl, minus the frizz.
Don’t forget to apply sunscreen daily to protect your skin, too. Get the lowdown on the difference between physical and chemical sunscreens.
