Environmentally friendly shampoo bar.
I was quite impressed about the concept of this Shampoo bar. Firstly made from non animal ingredients as well as no plastic wastage packaging. The bar smelled so fresh and lovely even before I opened the box.
It does not come with a storage tin so I had to look around the house for an empty container to store it in the shower.
I first lathered the bar in my hand and then applied the lather in my hair. this was quite time consuming so I just rubbed the bar in my wet hair and that seemed to work well . The shampoo foamed up nice enough to cover my whole hair and I was satisfied that it was enough to clean my hair.
I washed my hair and shampooed it again. So wash twice basically and I felt it left my hair so clean. I usually apply coconut oil in my hair on the weekends and this shampoo bar even helped to rinse out the oil from my hair easily.
My hair felt sleek and fresh but I felt I needed to apply conditioner because the shampoo bar alone was not enough to condition my hair , even though it has shea butter in it.
My hair smelt really good.
Love the idea about no plastic wastage so I will continue to buy. It lasts a long time as long as you store it dry and closed in a container.
Setting a New Shampoo Bar
The weDo No Plastic Shampoo Bar is a shampoo bar that is sulphates and silicones free, and vegan friendly. The bar comes in a cardboard box.
I was really excited to try this product as it is different to the traditional shampoo and has less (no) plastic compared shampoo bottles. This shampoo bar has a really pleasant scent, though does not stay on the hair after washing off the shampoo. It is really easy to use, simply rubbing the bar between the hands to get some nice lather then rubbing onto the hair and scalp. This provided sufficient lather and bubbles, and the shampoo left my hair feeling really clean. However, I felt that the shampoo left my scalp and hair feeling dry afterwards therefore needing to use hydrating conditioner. This shampoo bar may work better for those with oily hair.
I love that this is environmentally friendly option, reducing the unnecessary plastic in products. The scent is amazing, and the shampoo bar does leave a nice clean finish though somewhat drying to the hair. I would still recommend this as it does a great job cleaning the scalp and hair, and contains no plastic.
Excellent concept. Takes time to lather
I have heard about shampoo bars for a long time. Despite liking the concept of no plastic waste, I had a lot of doubt. Is it going to clean properly? Is it going to be too harsh on my hair? Is it going to crumble in the shower? After all, I grew up with traditional liquid shampoo and it's just easier to stick to it.
So thanks to @beautycrew for sending me the @wedo_act shampoo bar as part of the VIP box to try, I had it in my had, contemplated for a while and just decided to go with it. And of course, it cleanses well and it doesn't crumble in the shower.
What I also really like is the gorgeous scent and the simple formula - a very short ingredient list with argan oil and shea butter. Sulfate free. It doesn't perform too differently to my usual shampoo - except it is not purple - and it may even leave my hair cleaner than my regular shampoo. This can be followed by any conditioner (in my case, the usual purple conditioner).
The major disadvantage for me is that it takes a long time to lather. if I am in a rush this is not going to be very practical.
I am not expecting myself to make the switch for once and for all, but awareness and consciousness seems like a good start.
WeDo is a brand of Wella. This shampoo bar is the only plastic-free product from WeDo, but all the other products (such as conditioner, mask, creams and oils) are packaged in recycled plastic.
A good bar while on the go.
This shampoo bar was quite interesting to use! It took a few uses to get to foam up and actually get to work however once I was able to apply it on my scalp it seemed to do the trick. The bar was gentle and hydrating to the scalp and hair at the same time. I dont think it achieved the same goals as what liquid shampoo and conditioner would use however I can see its use during travel.
I liked the natural products used and the simple packaging. It's hydrating and feels nice on the skin.
Overall, this is a simple bar shampoo when you're stuck and want a wash of your hair.
Does it replace shampoo and conditioners? No
weDo/ Better For The Environment
I have been interested in trying hair products in bar form but was worried they couldn’t possibly be as effective as the bottled liquid types I have always used. I was excited to try this and see if it could be a more economical and environmentally friendly option for me.
Pros:
More environmentally friendly than plastic bottled shampoo. Cardboard box is recyclable and made of 100% recycled material.
Partnered with Plastic Bank. For every weDo/ product sold, 8 plastic bottles are removed from the environment.
Vegan.
Cruelty free.
No silicones.
No sulphates.
No artificial dyes.
Economical; lasts up to 80 washes.
User friendly; round shape is easy to hold.
Great for travelling; just pop it in a soap container and go! No risk of spills unlike liquid shampoos.
Small amount foams up nicely in wet hair. I was surprised at how a small amount of lather would turn into a thicker foam once massaged into my hair.
It works! I was delighted at how much it foamed up from just sliding it along my hair a few times (I tried a number of methods and found gliding it from top to bottom of my hair once in each area to be the fastest and easiest way to apply before massaging into a foam. Lathering in my hands took longer to apply to my hair, and rubbing it into my hair felt as though I was creating knots) and how well it cleansed.
Cons:
Not as hydrating as I would like. My hair is dry at the moment so I found this did leave my hair lacking the amount of moisture it has when using a more hydrating shampoo. I would love to see a more hydrating version for dry hair.
Can be inconvenient to store compared to a bottle which can sit on the shower floor or a shelf. This needs a soap holder or a soap bag to hang somewhere to dry properly so there is a chance one would need to buy something to store it. Not a big deal but make sure you have a way to store it when not in use (I had a spare soap holder which works wonderfully).
Overall, this is a fantastic option for those who wish to use less plastic and make a smaller negative impact on the environment. I love that it’s vegan and cruelty free, that every purchase helps remove plastic waste from the environment, and that it's made with thoughtful ingredients. I was surprised at how well it foamed up in my hair with what seemed like a minute amount of soap. It’s something I will continue to use and I would love to try a conditioner bar by this brand.
weDo No Plastic Shampoo Bar
So excited to try a shampoo like this, a first for me and I like that it’s more ethical for the environment. After unboxing the shampoo soap bar from the cardboard box my first instinct was to sniff the bar, it smells beautiful floral and sweet.
My initial instinct was to wet my hands and lather my hands up then apply the shampoo to my hair, I did this once then realised for my thick & frizzy shoulder length hair I was going to need a lot more so I did it a couple of more times and it still wasn’t enough so I rubbed the bar over my hair and got enough. My hair smelt beautiful but felt quite stiff after shampooing, I then conditioned my hair with my regular conditioner and it was fine after that.
For trialling purposes I asked my husband to use it on his head and his beard, he said he liked the difference in using a bar to shampoo and that it was easy to use. I also used it on my son and daughter who are both under five years of age, I loved it for my son for ease it was so simple, gentle and efficient, Whilst it was those for my daughter too she has long fine hair and I still needed to do a couple of repeated lathers in my hands for her like I did myself.
I would also recommend a soap dish or special place to put the soap bar as I just keep it in the one attached to the tiles in my shower and it sticks to that which also causes wastage.
If I was to use this on myself or my daughter we wouldn’t get the 80 washes from the bar I suspect 1/2 that or less whilst I would on the other hand highly recommend it for boys.
Amazing shampoo bar
Ok I must admit a shampoo bar isn't something I would usually be game enough to try. But that being said, participating in trials like this has stopped me from speculating and I am actually really shocked at how amazing this product is for my hair.
For reference my hair is medium length, thick, coarse, dry and frizzy.
When I opened the box that the shampoo bar comes in I thought to myself how am I going to get this through my hair?
Anyway I immediately jumped in the shower to try it out. I wet my hair and the bar and then I rubbed the bar between my hands to lather my hands up then ran this through my hair. My hair didn't feel like it was lathered up enough so I ran the bar directly through my hair and found that works faster for me. I must admit that it takes a little longer to lather than a traditional liquid shampoo but the results are definitely worth working for!
As I was rinsing I kept think Oh my goodness and just kept feeling me hair. It literally felt like I had just had a treatment and I had only just shampooed my hair. I was in shock at how silky my hair was from using this shampoo bar. And of course I still conditioned my hair with my regular conditioner but was in utter shock at how well a shampoo bar cleaned my hair and also how silky it left my hair feeling.
The only downside for me would have to be storing it on my shower caddy it leaves the metal bars a bit messy. So having a little dish for this to sit on if you have the space would be great.
The scent of the bar is subtle yet very nice like a light sweet perfume. It's gorgeous! I wasn't expecting it to have such a gorgeous scent.
The shampoo bar can last up to 80 washes but with hair as thick as mine it may not last as long. And I also like that the ingredient list is small and the bar is formulated with 86% natural origin ingredients and is Sulphate and silicone free. It is also vegan friendly.
After continued use for 4 weeks my hair is soft, silky and shiny after each wash and feels so clean and healthy. What a fabulous product I have just discovered!
Sustainable choice
Thanks to Beauty Crew for sending me this shampoo bar as part of their VIP Box. This is the first time I used this type of product and I was pleasantly surprised. The first thing is that it has a nice scent, making it enjoyable to use. Secondly, it takes up very little space in my bathroom.
It is easy to use this shampoo bar on my waist long hair. It doesn't lather very much, but that is not an issue for me. It is easy to wash off and does not leave any residue.
Conditioner is a must after using this shampoo, but I always use conditioner. Basically this is shampoo in a different form.
I am happy to use this shampoo in place of regular shampoo. It cannot substitute for my coloured shampoos.
It will be interesting to see how many washes I get out of this bar.
If you're ready to make a sustainable change, this is a great product.
Shampoo that cleanses but leaves hair dry.
For the first three washes, I was so disappointed with the soap because I couldn't make it foam and of course, that meant that my hair wasn't clean and I was really unhappy. But after the third wash, the soap started foaming and yay, my hair got clean!
The shampoo bar looks like a bar of soap and smells really fresh. Once I got it to work, I was really happy with the end result which has clean hair and scalp.
The reason why I gave it three stars are: firstly, you have to rub the soap in the hair and that made my hair so tangly that combing it after every wash was a pain; secondly, it comes in a sustainable packaging but I would have preferred a case that I can travel with because that would increase the chances of me buying this product again; thirdly, it left my hair really dry and I had to use a lot of moisturising conditioner.
weDo Shampoo Bar
I received the weDo Shampoo Bar thanks to Beauty Crew generously sending me a VIP Trial pack. A shampoo bar is a new product to me, so I was looking forward to putting it through its paces to see how it would compare to a regular shampoo.
The shampoo bar boasts a vegan formulation with a simplistic formula that gently clarifies and cleanses the hair. I appreciate the plastic free minimalist package that is good for the environment.
As expected, the shampoo looks like a bar of soap. It has a lovely natural and fresh fragrance.
I found that the shampoo took some work to create a suitable lather. I tried both massaging directly on the hair and lathering first on my hand and transferring to my hair. Directly on my hair worked best for me as it took less time. Although with the preferred method I did not like the amount of pressure needed on my hair.
The shampoo was easy to rinse out, but did leave the hair feeling somewhat stringy and in definite need of conditioner.
I love the idea of the more sustainable packaging that the weDo Shampoo Bar offers, but I'm sad to admit that I would not replace my regular shampoo with this one. I just find it's too much effort and somewhat drying on my already dry and also damaged hair. I do believe it would be better suited for normal to oily hair types.
Shampoo but in a bar!
I can really get on board with all of these new environmentally friendly beauty products coming out and the newest one happens to be the shampoo bar! It makes sense, if we can have bars of soap then we can definitely have shampoo bars. It's a round shaped bar and it has an incredible scent. It contains hydrating ingredients like shea butter which I like to keep my hair moisturised so I was very interested to see how I would find this product. The shampoo bar does lather but I found it to be difficult to take the lather from my hands and then apply it to my hair. I would have to do that several times to get a good amount of lather on my hair to finally start being able to wash it. What I did instead was actually take the bar and rub it onto my hair and scalp. This worked a lot better and much faster in my opinion. Once I rinsed it out my hair felt clean and soft. Although it says you can use it for up to 80 washes I feel like it's much less as the bar has gotten really small in a short amount of time. Is it a good product? Yes it definitely is and I can see myself using more shampoo bars in the future!
Not for dry hair
I was very excited to trial this shampoo bar as I love the concept of a shampoo product that requires no plastic packaging - such a good idea! You will need to have a separate soap dish to put this bar in since it just comes in a paper box.
I was able to work up a decent lather upon the first use. I have long, coarse hair that is prone to dryness. This shampoo bar cleaned very well, but a little too well, as it totally stripped my hair of moisture - it was seriously squeaky clean. I had to immediately put on a nourishing treatment to fix things up.
However, I did get my husband to try it as well, he has a bit of an oily scalp and uses hair wax, and this shampoo bar worked well and cleaned his hair well, though he still prefers his usual SLS-free shampoo over it.
Unfortunately this didn't work for me but it may work for those with oilier hair or those who need to get rid of product in their hair. It could double as a clarifying shampoo.
Overall good experience.
For the purpose of reviewing this, my hair is long, fine (though there is lots of hair on my head, its not thick hair just tonnes of fine hair strands) has blonde highlights (half grown out) and is naturally wavy. I usually straighten it due to flyaway etc.
Out of the 3 products I tried this one was my least favourite, though still good. The only thing I didn't like about it was its actually quite hard to work up into a lather. I definitely had to rinse and repeat for the best results (which isn't uncommon with shampoo) but I found the first lather to be almost painful, rubbing this around through my hair it just seemed to pick up bits of hair like knots in a brush without producing many bubbles at all. After rinsing and repeating it definitely became easier to work through my hair and produce a satisfying lather. My hair was left feeling clean, though a little dry after. Thankfully the conditioner and leave in conditioner did take care of that and made my hair feel soft and smooth.
Thanks for allowing my to try this. It was my first experience with a shampoo bar.
Amazing shampoo bar
This shampoo bar is nothing more than you can ask for. I am a strong advocate of environment friendly products and thus I love this (Plastic free) product more. Unlike liquid shampoos, the feel of soap rubbing on the scalp is so satisfying. The lather is so rich and good. I have a dry itchy scalp and using this soap reduced the dryness. I am a fan of fragrant products and I love the perfume of this soap.
I am sure to use it regularly and will definitely buy again. Would definitely love to recommend to friends and family.
amazing! Goes a long way
I was very surprised with woDO No Plastic Shampoo Bar. I took a few shots to form up under the water that I honestly thought like I was putting knots into my hair but after a while it was so easy. I double shampooed with the bar. There’s a slight fragrance to this bar but nothing to over powering.
I felt and noticed a huge difference in my hair. My scalp was clean, no irritation and helped with my dandruff. I genuinely believe my hair has looked more shiny and voluminous since using the woDO shampoo bar. I also use this in both my daughters hair and they’ve had the same results. This bar has lasted so many showers and baths, I’m honestly so surprised! I highly recommend this to anyone.
Excellent shampoo; a bit of work for thick hair
I have quite thick wavy hair and was unsure I would be able to get a nice clean feeling. I had never tried a bar shampoo before but I like that there is less packaging and less waste and also the brand’s vegan philosophy.
When I first started using the product I found it difficult to get it to lather in my hair. By using lots of water and rubbing the bar in my hands rather than in my hair it began to lather, I did have to repeat this process a couple of times to be able to get enough product for a good clean.
Since I started using the product the bar has not gotten smaller, it should last me a lot longer than the suggested 80 washes.
To begin with I found the scent to be a bit overwhelming, but once you use it a few times the scent is actually quite pleasant.
I will continue to use the bar shampoo but I don’t think I would buy it again as it is a lot more work than liquid shampoos when you have thick hair.
Doesn't quite sit right with my hair
I love the concept of a shampoo bar, minimum packaging and waste and easy to use. It also lasts incredibly long - it's barely reduced in size over the past month. However, it doesn't quite sit right with my hair and seems to dry it out but I'll admit my hair is very picky when it comes to hair products, so it might work well for others! It does seem to clean it well, just that my hair feels very dry after the wash. The scent is also very pleasant.
I would recommend this to people who are looking to give shampoo bars a go! If your hair is like mine and dries out really easily, then this might not be the best option.
Great for travel
I've been looking for a shampoo bar for a while to have in my travel kit after having one too many bottles explode in my suitcase before and this one seems great! I have fine hair so it's very obvious when shampoo is too oily/too heavy but I didn't have any issues with this. Only downside is that it doesn't come in a travel friendly container so I don't really know how you're meant to store it, but maybe they'll release a reusable tub in future. Looking forward to continuing to use this product.
Such a great sustainable option.
I had never tried a shampoo bar before, so really did not know what to expect. I was very very pleasantly surprised. I loved that this product is plastic-free and sustainable, and although I have only used it for a short while, I can see that this product is going to last A LONG time. So I already wanted to like it, but when I tried it, I was amazed. It left my hair feeling so clean, which I really did not expect. It was so easy to use and after my shower, I realised how shiny my hair looked. I will definitely be repurchasing, such a great eco-friendly option for an awesome shampoo.
Shampoo bar
This is the very first shampoo bar ever used! I love the idea of no plastic, recycled packaging and a simple to use bar. I absolutely love the weDO smell, I can’t get enough of it! It not too strong of a scent as I’m sensitive to fragrance.
I have very long, oily hair with bleached ends and a sensitive scalp. I did find it was hard for the shampoo to break down the oils in my hair if I hadn’t washed my hair at the 3 day mark.
The shampoo bar really needs to be rubbed in my hands to get any sort of lathering going, which I didn’t mind but did take some getting use too. I found I was getting a little rough with my hair trying to the shampoo thoughout my hair with my fingers.
I haven’t had any problems so far with my scalp which has been great! I normally really struggle finding shampoos that doesn’t irritate my scalp, make it itchy or flaky.
I’m definitely going to keep using the bar and repurchase it. Once I found how to use it best for my hair I’ve really been enjoying it.
