it is nice but mixed opinion
This product gets mixed feedback from me.
The packaging looks so nice and feels like good quality (the dropper isn't the best for dispensing the serum).
First impressions of the serum was that it didn't have the consistency or texture that I'm used to for a serum. It did still feel nice and smooth over well but it was definitely a thicker consistency than you would normally get from a serum. A little does go a long way and it does leave your skin feeling very fresh and smooth.
After a bit of use I can't say I noticed a big change in my skintone but maybe you would have to be using it a few months rather than the month I had used it. However it was lovely to use, smelled nice and is an easy to find and affordable supermarket product.
Glowy and lovely - give this serum a try!
Love this serum and the pearlescent sheen it gives the skin. Not sure I noticed any long term brightening or skin effects, but this goes really lovely over a hydrating primer or moisturiser and before makeup to give an extra glow. The formula is not sticky, it doesn't have noticeable glitter or anything and didn't make my face to slippy for any other products. Great price point and convenient packaging! I haven’t tried too many Nuetrogena products before but this one makes me think I should – I would most definitely repurchase this and have recommended it to friends who are looking for a glow, without too much shine or slip!
It’s okay.
Easy to use product and packaging. Hygienic and you don’t waste too much product. You control how much you use. After cleansing I applied 4 drops. Felt it wasn’t enough but didn’t want to use too much product. It was a bit sticky after applying but when you apply moisturiser after it settles down. Didn’t notice a big difference but gave a nice pearlescent look. Suitable for all main types it claims. My skin is sensitive combination. It didn’t break me out which was good as some drugstore products do that.
Cosmetic Shimmer Effect - Instant Glow
I enjoyed this product but I did not look at this as a 'serum' for ongoing use to improve my skin tone and skin quality nor for the skin care benefits as I feel this 'serum' is more for instant appearances.
This serum contains shimmer particles that when applied to the skin gives you an instant cosmetic glowing/shimmer, although when you wash this off it disappears. Regardless, this made my skin look incredible and natural, I would apply this serum under foundation or even just wear it on its own and applied some to my chest as well. This serum was extremely hydrating and plumped up my skin - my skin is on the drier side and may be too thick for oily skin types.
When applying this during my nighttime routine I would wake up and my skin would look incredible.
It's a no from me.
This is a thick serum with sparkling particles. For my skin, this wasn't anywhere near hydrating enough and I am not a fan of the sparkles - I want a product that actually works to brighten my skin from within rather than just coating it with glitter.
I would not buy this and would not recommend this to others. There are plenty of other products on the market that offer a lot more hydration without the need for adding glitter to the product.
The packaging itself though is quite nice and secure, and dispenses a good amount of product.
Wish it had no shimmer or fragrance
This serum guides on the skin beautifully, and leaves your skin with a very faint shimmer. It contains mica, which gives off the shimmer effect. Personally I’m not a fan, as it seems to be a bit artificial and unnecessary, esp when using at night.
I’m also not a fan of the fragrance as i find it to be too strong and “artificial”.
I did however appreciate that it contained a gentle AHA. I have sensitive and dry skin, and use a mild AHA and BHA and using this at night didn’t irritate my skin. I didn’t notice a dramatic difference, but my skin did feel nice and smooth in the mornings after use.
Good serum on a budget
Is it the best serum I've ever used? No. Is it an affordable option if you're looking for a serum? Yes.
I used to twice a day for the last 6-weeks or so and I honestly have mixed feelings about it. It's not bad by any means, the simmer is minimal but it does offer a luminous finish.
I would say it's maybe better for the evenings than twice a day. When put on under my make-up, it created like a pilling feeling on my skin which I really didn't like. Wasn't a problem if I was bare-faced however.
Gives it a nice glow for dry-normal skin types
I received this product as a sample and thoroughly enjoyed incorporating it into my new daily routine. I use this only in the morning after I wash my face and before I apply my sunscreen. The serum itself has a pearly white finish to it and I find that it gives me a nice glow. However, on hot humid days this 'glow' can look a little oily so I probably only recommend it for dry-normal skin, and not oily skin types. There is also a very heavy perfumed scent to the serum, which is the reason why it lost one star.
Its ok
This was ok, like other reviewers; i was expecting a little more.
I was happy that it didnt irritate my skin but i definitely did not see any difference.
It looks pretty? There is micro shimmer which i dont think was needed and when the products were layered, it did feel a little heavy but separately, it was nice.
The last thing i can complain about is the fragrance- i would give the product another star if it was fragrance free. It runs through the whole line. Its not unpleasant- but more unnecessary.
Doesn't work well with other products
The Neutrogena Bright Boost illuminating Serum is a light serum with a pleasant scent. I found it made my skin extra soft and hydrated after using it.
What I didn't like about this product:
* The self filling pump doesn't seem to work properly. You end up having to refill it with product 2-3 times before there is enough to use for one face application. This is pretty annoying and something I would have hoped Neutrogena would test.
* It doesn't work well with other products. When I put SPF and makeup over the top of this serum I find it pills and I have to take everything off and start again. For this reason I would recommend using this product in the evening. Although I'm not sure what the use is of an illuminating serum before bed?
I don't think I would recommend this as the positives didn't outweigh the negatives on this one.
Feels great but didnt deliver in the illumination
This serum is very refreshing, its smells great and applies well to the skin but im not sure what difference it really made. It didnt instruct when to use in the facial regime but i applied after my moisturiser and before make up. It also took me a while to figure out that you release the drops by pressing the top of the lid as there were no instructions so for a long time i thought the stick was pretty useless.
Overall smells and feels great when first applying but not sure its giving the brightening illumination of the skin that its says it is.
Leaves my face looking vibrant
In the past, I’ve tended to steer clear from serums because those I’ve used before have left my face oily, which would usually cause me to break out the next day. This one however is just perfect! No oily residue, no breakouts, just vibrant looking skin that feels soft and smooth. I think I’ll be back on the serums again, but not just any serum, has to be this one!
My face was left feeling smoother and looked brighter even after just a couple of uses! I had all my friends and family asking me what I had started to do differently with my skincare routine and I couldn't stop telling them about how great this new find is! Definitely recommended!
My new holy grail
I received the Neutrogena bright boost range to trial and to say I was impressed is an understatement. I’ve been struggling with skin that is dry one day and oily the next, looking rather lifeless and dull, but after using this serum, in combination with the exfoliater and moisturiser my skin has never looked better. The serum is light enough for me to wear during the day, yet also suitable for nighttime as it really locks in moisture without being greasy. I wasn’t a massive fan of the scent, however im happy to overlook that for the results I’ve had using this. I will definitely repurchase this whole range again and again!
Illuminating Serum
I really liked Neutrogena Bright Boost Illuminating Serum! My skin definitely improved using it. I was using the Micro Polish & Gel Cream in the range to compliment it. It left my skin soft and glowing, and I did noticed an improvement in texture over time. The only issue I had was actually with the bottle itself! The pump/dropper was a little frustrating, you can literally only pick up one drop at a time with it. It does mean you have to repeat the process a few times to get the drops you need for your face, but it's a minor issue. Definitely recommend it otherwise!
An alternate serum if you’re on a budget!
I’m a big fan of using serums and have been using Fresh vitamin C serums for the past year. After trying this one from Neutrogena it’s definitely a big difference. I’m not a huge fan on fragranced products on my face because it does give me a light headache after a while and also there are hints of shimmer in the serum which can get all over your hands and body if you’re using this daily. It does the job and definitely brightens however it’s a bit too much for everyday and would suggest using this every odd two-three days.
Not for me..
I trialled this product in conjunction with the micro polish exfoliant and moisturising gel cream from the same neutrogena bright boost range. The range comes in cute pink packaging, and claims to help brighten the skins appearance.
I have easily sensitised skin, so was immediately put off with the amount of fragrance in not only this product, but also the others products in the range. I didn't notice any irritation as such, but my skin became drier throughout my time using this range, and I feel that I may have had some issues if I continued to use these products together without incorporating other products to counter this.
This serum was my least favourite product in the range. The mica does provide a good glow, and it does act as a nice highlighter underneath makeup (which is what I will use it for in the future), but the serum does not seem to provide any hydration to the skin, something which I definitely need in a serum. I also did not notice any improvement to my skin after continued use.
Based on the fragrance, and lack of any noticeable improvement, I would not recommend this serum, especially for drier and/or sensitive skin types.
Does well with other products from the range
A good serum, but not hydrating enough for my skin. It has a pleasant smell and a good serum consistency that gets absorbed into the skin in a few seconds and makes it feel tight. Over time, I've had to top up with a moisturizer as my skin didn't feel supple enough throughout. It has a non-comedogenic formula so it's great for skin types that are normally sensitive to oily serums. Overtime, my skin did brighten up, but I would not want to attribute this to one product alone, as I've used this in conjunction with other Neutrogena products. A fair product , but there are better ones out there!
was expecting more
Neutrogena is one of my trusted brands and I like their other serums and was very excited to try Bright Boost illuminating serum. It comes in a cute shimmery bottle. It has a very mild fragrance which is pleasant. It has a very thick consistency and shimmer in it. It claims to be oil free, alcohol free, and non-comedogenic but I had a doubt that it would suit my oily summer skin. It easily gets absorbed into my skin and did not feel heavy on the skin. I used it with the other products in the range. The product didn't quite suit well along with the other products and make up for my skin as it started pilling and also my skin has a shine especially on my T-zone after a few hours. I decided to try it on its own a couple of times and it was hydrating and no pilling. I could not see any brightening or illuminating effects though. Honestly, I was expecting more and would not recommend this to someone with oily skin.
SO. MUCH. SHIMMER!
I was so excited to try this product, I absolutely adore the exfoliant in this range but it does not live up to expectations.
The serum is quite thin but feels really silicone heavy on application on the skin, perhaps this serum will work better for me in the winter. In the summer it feels suffocating on the skin.
On application the product does tingle my sometimes sensitive skin, but that went away quite quickly. However after a few days of use in conjunction with the matching gel cream moisturiser my skin got quite sensitive and irritated. So those of you with sensitive skin proceed with caution. Perhaps its not an everyday product for me.
All that to say, my biggest issue with this product is the addition of mica. SO MUCH MICA aka shimmer. The shimmer is rather large dark gold shimmer particles and on my very fair skin it looked like I was attempting my best edward cullen cosplay! WHY?? This meant that if I applied this product in the morning I felt I HAD to wear makeup if I was leaving the house.
I'm not sure if there were any redeeming qualities about this product for me, so will not be recommending this one to friends.
Slightly thicker serum with shimmer
The Bright Boost Illuminating Serum does give you a 'glow' effect but not sure about the long term effects as I noticed tiny shimmer particles in it. It has a pleasant fragrance but might be irritable for skin types that is sensitive to fragrance. It is a slightly thicker and greasier serum, which I don't mind as I have dry skin. I would use this at night time and probably wouldn't wear a thick moisturiser on top or oil, just a gel cream. Makeup sat alright on top of it as long as I waited for it to settle. This is probably my least favourite out of the Bright Boost range.
