Reasonable lightweight moisturiser
This moisturiser was fine. It didn't wow me, it didn't not satisfy my need for a moisturiser either. I have exceptionally dry and dehydrated skin, which this wouldn't be perfect for, but on hot days when even I get a bit more oily, I found myself reaching for this and being fine about it. I am not sure I would repurchase, and if it cost much more I'd be a bit disappointed to not see any longer term effects, but at this price point if you have only reasonably dry or combo skin, and want something lightweight - go for it. I did like how this moisturiser made my skin feel upon application.
Shimmer and perfumy
This moisturiser was okay. I wouldn’t recommend only for the fact that it didn’t do much for my combination sensitive skin. It comes in a pot so just keep hygiene of importance. Use a spatula especially if you are going to share this product for any reason. Have a slight shimmer after use which was nice dewy finish but it didn’t look too natural. Scent, like the rest of the range is perfumy so if you dont like floral scents in your skincare then steer away from this. It absorbs quickly which is nice and convenient if you are using this product under your daily makeup.
A good gel cream, needs more hydration
I have skin on the drier side, and found whilst this moisturizer did leave me with a brighter complexion, it was not hydrating enough for my dry skin.
The gel goes on completely smooth and absorbs into the skin very easily and quickly. The fragrance is not strong and was quite pleasant as well. There are shimmer particles in this moisturizer so it will give you instant glow and shimmer and looks great under foundation, I wish it had been a bit more hydrating though. On hot days, this gel cream was great as it was not heavy on my face and I did not break out at all from it.
OK - a few issues.
My first issue with this product is the jar - having an fully opening jar isn't the most hygienic nor is it good for maintaining the integrity of the product over time so it does lose some marks based on this.
In terms of the moisturiser itself, the scent is nice however I am not a fan of the "brightening" coming from shimmer within the cream. Texture is nice and feels good on the skin once applied. It does get drawn into the skin quite well.
It didn't feel hydrating enough for my skin but may work for other skin types.
Would prefer without shimmer, but good gel
Pros: the texture of the gel cream is beautiful and smooth. It absorbs quickly and easily into the skin, following the serum from the range, and leaves the skin feeling smooth. Unfortunately for my dry skin, I found that it wasn’t enough, and I did need to use an extra moisuriser on top. However, it suited my skin needs better in the morning, where I prefer something lighter. Luckily it is the only product in the range that doesn’t contain AHAs which meant it wouldn’t make my skin more sensitive to the sun during the day. So I felt safe using it day and night, if I felt like it.
The packaging on this is simple and sturdy. And looks pretty on any shelfie.
Cons:
I feel like this range is targeting young people who want a exciting experience from their skin care. But for someone who takes their skincare seriously and is almost 30, I found the “shimmer” or “mica” and “artificial” smell of the fragrance to be too gimmicky for me to purchase the range.
Light summer gel
Honestly, I was not blown away by the Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream - feel like I've used better 'pharmacy' brand/budget-friendly products.
It did feel light and refreshing when on, smelled great and gave my skin a glow - however, I felt it really didn't sit well under my make-up. Something in the ingredients did not agree with my other make-up and reduced its wear throughout the day.
I will say - used in conjunction with the Neutrogena Bright Boost serum gave my skin a good boost of hydration, but not enough to wow me by any means and repurchase.
Need to layer with an occlusive moisturiser on top
Like the other products in this range, the first thing I noticed when I opened the tub was how heavily scented the product was. Personally, it's on the borderline of being overpowering.
The gel cream itself is a very light consistency. I would classify it as a humectant moisturiser which means that its good in drawing in water and holding moisture in your skin however you definitely need to layer it with a more occlusive moisturiser on top to lock it all in. If you rely on only on this as your moisturiser, you will find that it is not only not moisturising enough, it will even dry out the skin.
Quick fix for boost and hydration on face
So i have mixed feelings about this product, I really love the way it feels on my skin, its very cooling and refreshing and the gel like consistency gives a quick fix hydration and refresh however i wasnt convinced that it was having any lasting impressions of actually brightening my skins condition rather than just applying a top layer bright cooling gel.
Also i wouldnt recommend this for anyone who has slightly sensitive skin.
I think this could be best used as a travel item, i felt this would be something i would want on long distance travel wash bag, to instantly refresh your face, quick hydration and smell great.
Its nice!
This was a lovely cream, feels really smooth after application- i would recommend it for people with normal to oily skin? i have dry skin and it wasnt enough moisture for me.
I was glad that it did not break me out or irritate me after using for 4 weeks straight. I didnt notice any difference with skin texture/dark spots/correction. So it was just nice.
The only other thing i can complain about is the fragrance- i would give the product another star .if it was fragrance free. It runs through the whole line. Its not unpleasant- but more unnecessary.
Glittery gel that doesn't absorb well
This "Gel cream" was way too heavy for me. I expected it to be light like a gel and moisturising like a cream, but instead it was sticky like a gel and heavy like a cream.
The product didn't fully absorb into my skin. There was always a feeling of stickiness or tackiness after it was applied.
I also didn't like that the product had tiny glitter granules in it. It made me think there really isn't any active ingredients to add a genuine glow to the skin, it was just a glittery, heavy gel that didn't absorb very well.
The scent was pleasant enough but I would definitely not recommend this product.
My new go to
I’ve been using this for a few weeks now and my skin has been loving every bit of it. It doesn’t feel sticky and smells great as well. Easily absorbed by my face which means I can just use it as my everyday moisturiser under my make up. I will definitely purchase this when I run out, give this a go, you won’t regret it!
I have sensitive skin which is quite prone to break out especially when I use new products, however this product did not affect me at all which I am very impressed with! I highly recommend it for people with sensitive skin too as it left mine with no break outs, redness and itchiness. My face looked noticeably brighter and felt softer and smoother - very happy user!
Love it
I received the Neutrogena bright boost range to trial and to say I was impressed is an understatement. I’ve been struggling with skin that is dry one day and oily the next, looking rather lifeless and dull, but after using this moisturiser in combination with the exfoliater and serum my skin has never looked better. The moisturiser has been perfect for my need during the day and most importantly during the night where I need a moisturiser that keeps working through the night, and this fits the bill. Its light in texture and soaks in quite quickly without feeling dry afterwards. The scent isn’t my favourite but I can get passed that for the sake of the benefits I’ve had using this range of products. I will definitely repurchase this whole range again and again!
Super soft skin
I really liked Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream! I typically go make-up free most days and this made me feel really confident doing it. It absorbed into my skin so well, and left it glowing and soft. The slight drawback for me was I don't LOVE the glitter but its certainly not ostentatious by any means. My skin still felt hydrated in the morning from applying it the night before, which was definitely a pleasant surprise. You don't need a really large amount either, so a jar will last a little while
A lot of shimmer if you want a moisturised glow
I’m not a big fan of skincare with shimmer because it tends to spread everywhere - makeup brushes, hands, clothes etc. This is probably a product for those who don’t wear makeup besides a light concealer which can go on top of the cream and worn alone because the shimmer gives you a natural glow look. Good for those who love dewy natural looking skin however I’m more of a matte girl. The smell as well is quite strong for me, I’m used to unscented or more botanical natural scents so this product unfortunately not made for me.
Not hydrating enough..
I've been using this gel cream moisturiser in conjunction with the micro polish and illuminating serum from the bright boost range. The product comes in a pink and silver jar, which isn't my favourite packaging but does the job.
The gel cream is a nice consistency and applies well to the skin. It is heavily fragranced however, which I generally try to avoid as my skin is easily sensitised, but I haven't noticed any irritation with use. Unfortunately, however, this gel cream just does not provide enough hydration for my (drier) skin. Based on this I wouldn't repurchase, and I wouldn't recommend for anyone with drier skin types.
Brightens but not hydrarating enough
To be really honest, I had very high expectations from this one as I've used the Neutrogena gels in the past. Unfortunately, this one wasn't hydrarating enough for me. It does brighten the skin, but I would not want to attribute that to one product alone, as I've used this in conjunction with other products from the range as well. The formula is gel like, absorbs right into the skin, and leaves my skin asking for a something extra. I do have combination skin, with an oily t-zone. The product felt dry and tight onn my cheeks. The t-zone felt ok. I would recommend this to someone looking for a brightening gel, but has skin that does not need a hydro boost.
Nice gel cream
I tried Neutrogena Bright Boost gel cream along with other products in the range. The gel comes in a pot packaging and has a very nice smell. I loved the feel and the texture of the formulation. It easily gets absorbed into the skin but I didn't like the shimmer it has which takes a few minutes to disappear or absorbed into the skin. I have oily skin and had a bit of an issue with pilling and a shiny T-zone after a few hours when I applied this product with another skincare product or bb cream and make up. So I decided to try it on its own as a night cream and had better results. The skin looked hydrated and texture improved, skin felt smoother too. I wont say there were any instant effects but it did work for me over the time and didn't cause any breakouts.
Refreshed, Soft & Smooth
I'm enjoying using the Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream. Initially, it felt really hydrating on my skin, however after around two weeks my skin began to feel a little heavy when I wore this gel cream during the day time and I felt the shimmer tones didn't work well with my everyday minimal make-up look. I've begun to use this at night time with the serum and I like this combination. My skin is feeling lighter and hydrated again. I love the way my skin feels when I apply the gel cream at night - It feels refreshed, soft and smooth.
So much Shimmer!! Why?
I had very high expectations for this product after absolutely loving the exfoliant from the same range, however this was a major letdown.
The texture of the product is exactly as you would imagine a gel cream to be. It is a lightweight gel consistency that absorbs in to the skin easily without feeling heavy and hydrates my oily combo skin wonderfully.
The first few times I used the product it tingled but not super bad and stopped within minutes. However after a few says of use, in conjunction with the serum from the range, my skin started to get irritated and I had issues with flakey, breakouts and dermatitis. The products may not have caused that on my sometimes sensitive skin, but those who are reaction prone - proceed with caution.
All that to say, My biggest issue with this product is the addition of mica. SO MUCH MICA aka shimmer. The shimmer is rather large dark gold shimmer particles and on my very fair skin it looked like I was attempting my best edward cullen cosplay! WHY?? This meant that if I applied this product in the morning I felt I HAD to wear makeup if I was leaving the house.
If they were to ditch the shimmer then I would definitely attempt to incorporate this product into my routine in a way that would lessen any irritation. As it stands, I would not recommend to family and friends.
A light summer moisturiser
The Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream pairs well with the serum (which is a littler thicker and greasier). It is a refreshing moisturiser for summer and makeup sits well on it. It does have a fragrance, which my skin is sensitive to. Although a pleasant scent it can become a little overpowering over the day. I have combination dry skin and the moisturiser was good for my oilier t-zone but did not help with the dry patches on my cheek. It would be good for someone who has non-problematic skin that needs a light moisturiser. Haven't noticed any brightening effects yet. There also seems to be shimmer particles in it, similar to the ones in the serum.
