Hint: It’s all about pushing beauty boundaries!
Fact: Beauty is all about breaking boundaries. Also fact: Breaking boundaries often results in buzzy trends that we can’t get enough of (exhibit A: ‘no makeup’ makeup). But how does one keep up with what is trending, what products to buy and how to apply each one?
Well, apart from looking to us cool kids at Beauty Crew for all your latest beauty inspo, you can also check out the wondrous wall of inspiration that is Pinterest. With over eight billion beauty ideas and 207 million beauty boards, you’re pretty much spoilt for choice.
But it’s worth noting that what we’re all into here in Australia, is rarely the same as our beauty sisters on the other side of the world. And sometimes, looking to them can be all the inspo you need to break out of a beauty rut.
If you’re keen for a little peek into how the rest of the world are wearing their makeup right now, we’ve got you. With the help of Pinterest’s latest stats, we’ve pulled together the standout makeup looks six countries can’t stop pinning.
#1 / Orange blush in Japan
It may be time to do away with your pink blush! Turns out orange blush is really having a moment in Japan with saves going up +250 per cent in the last six months alone. And we can totally see why – while it may sound odd, it actually looks super subtle AND very pretty! A hint of orange can brighten your complexion and give your skin a luminous, natural-looking glow without the need for highlighter. We recommend trying out MAC Powder Blush in Modern Mandarin. If you’re not keen on trying orange blush, you can channel the trend with a swipe of orange eye makeup instead.
#2 / Wine-coloured lipstick in Brazil
While many of us try and camouflage the telltale sign of a few too many glasses of red wine (read: red-stained lips), it looks like the Brazilians are embracing it. Searches for wine-coloured lips have gone up +93 per cent recently. It’s equal parts dark and edgy and we think it’s the perfect statement if you’re looking for something more daring on your next night out. We recommend trying NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Unspeakable or Elizabeth Arden Plush Up Lip Gelato in Red Velvet 18.
#3 / Artistic makeup in France
Bored of your usual brown eyeshadow? France is currently embracing artistic and graphic makeup looks, and it’s all the encouragement you need to step outside the box! With saves going up +88 per cent since January, cue an abundance of inspo to shake up your usual makeup look. Think Lucy Hale’s green eye makeup look at the Teen Choice Awards and Rita Ora’s graphic eyeliner at the MTV VMAs.
4 / Glitter makeup in Argentina
Good news: Glitter is not just for festivals anymore. Argentina is currently ALL about adding a little extra sparkle to your beauty look, with a +77 per cent increase in saves for glitter eye makeup. Consider your face a canvas and add a splash of glitter to your eye makeup game, either on your lids or sprawled out from your outer eye towards your temples. While it’s not quite suitable for your everyday look, we say go for it after dark!
#5 / Russian Volume eyelash extensions in Spain
Russia is set to overthrow the lash extension game, with countries like Spain falling in love with Russian Volume eyelash extensions (pins are up a whopping +700 per cent increase). Yep, wow. These bad boys are 100 per cent synthetic, but they’re different from your usual eyelash extensions in that they’re a lot finer and softer. Keen for a full, fluttery set? Check out everything you need to know before you get eyelash extensions.
#6 / Cat-eye makeup in South Africa
It looks like the classic cat-eye is here to stay. The bold and sexy makeup look is a totally foolproof (so long as you have a steady hand!) way to add that extra oomph to your look. In South Africa, cat-eye makeup has shot up +131 per cent, proving that people still can’t get enough of it. If you’re looking for something a little edgier than the traditional flick, why not swap out your black liner for a coloured liner à la Kim Kardashian and January Jones.
#7 / Rose gold eye makeup in Australia
According to Pinterest, it seems us Aussies are obsessed with rose gold eye makeup at the moment - it’s our top trending eyeshadow colour and has gone up by +188 per cent. If everything from your iPhone to your jewellery is rose gold, it may be time to match your makeup to the latest trend, too. We think this is a highly versatile colour that is fun and sophisticated. Plus, it can easily be taken from work to happy hour. We recommend checking out the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette to try your hand at the trend.
