Can Olay Regenerist products actually work in a week?
Our editor tried the nourishing and anti-ageing trio to see
Let me start by disclosing that this isn’t my first dance with the Olay Regenerist skin care range. Back when the Miracle Boost Pre-Essence launched, I was fortunate enough to visit the research centre and lab in Singapore (it’s insane how much science is behind these skin care products!), and so after seeing how meticulously they’re formulated, I had to give the duo (the aforementionedMiracle Boost and Micro-Sculpting Cream) a try. And I was impressed.
Fast forward a bit and it’s admittedly been a while since I’ve used the products, so I was quite happy to be tasked with trialling not only the Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Pre-Essence and Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Day Cream, but the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Night Cream, too.
This range has been formulated predominately for advanced anti-ageing benefits (there's a whole amino-peptide complex dedicated to improving collagen production), namely to firm and smooth skin, reduce wrinkles, and basically fight the ticking of the ageing clock; and to be honest I'm not quite deep in that age-fighting bracket yet. But, I'm ALL about doing what I can in my skin care routine *now* to slow the process and keep my somewhat-youthful visage looking that way for as long as possible. A bit about my skin profile: I’m sitting very comfortably in the 25 – 34 age range, I have combination skin (just a bit of oiliness in the T-zone), and I don’t have any huge signs of ageing, but there are a few – just a few crinkles around my eyes when I smile, and some fine lines around my mouth and on my forehead. I've also noticed my skin tends to look a little duller and tired when I've had a few too many late nights and glasses of red (oops, but also not sorry). And, because I live in Australia and tend to be out in the sun, some signs of pigmentation. My main goals for using the Regenerist range? To ensure maximum hydration (because hydrated skin is skin that's going to stay looking younger for longer).
I’d been told that using the three products together would leave me with smoother, plumper and more hydrated skin after just five nights. I decided to round it up to a cool seven, just to be safe.
Each morning I’d start by cleansing and toning, and then following it up with the Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Pre-Essence and Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Day Cream. At night, it was the same, except I used the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Night Cream to finish off (the first time testing this product).
The reason for using the Pre-Essence alongside the other Regenerist products is because it’s been formulated to work with the ingredients in the moisturisers to help the hydrating and anti-ageing ingredients penetrate deeper and work harder.
So here’s what I thought by the end of my week using the Olay Regenerist Overnight Miracle regimen.
#1 / The night cream was a welcome addition
Just to get a bit sciencey here: When you sleep, your body is working overtime to repair your cells, so this is the peak time to use products and ingredients that are going to help the process and ensure that your skin remains hydrated, smooth and youthful. So the addition of the Micro-Sculpting Night Cream into the Regenerist routine made a lot of sense – especially seeing as it’s been designed to deeply hydrate dry skin and plump ageing skin while preventing moisture loss overnight.
I loved how rich and luxurious the cream felt, and that I only needed about a pea-sized amount to cover my entire face. By the time I woke up in the morning, I didn’t feel like I had a layer of the cream on my skin, it just felt really smooth and soft.
I’ll be honest, on Sydney’s insane heat wave days (gotta love those Australian summers), I did feel that using both the day cream and night cream left my skin feeling a bit thick and heavy, but I’d say most products wouldn’t be able to stand up to those 35 degrees-plus days.
#2 / My skin felt incredibly smooth
My skin felt so soft and smooth as quickly as the morning after my first application. By the end of the week, it also felt a bit more bouncy and plump. I found that when I gently prodded my cheeks (yes, this did get some stares around the office), my skin felt firmer and fuller. I’d hazard a guess that was thanks to the ingredients of lys’lastine, hyaluronic acid and glycerol, which have been included to improve elasticity and firmness. The Pre-Essence and Micro-Sculpting Cream are also packed full of niacinamide (also known as vitamin B3), which helps skin maintain its moisture content, so that could explain why the products made my face feel soft and smooth.
#3 / My makeup looked better
Besides the fact that after a few days my skin's surface was smoother and it was looking plump and luminous sans makeup, an added bonus of this smoothness was that I found my makeup applied like a dream and my base looked a lot more like skin. I didn’t change my foundation or makeup products during the trial, so I can only assume the added glow factor was due to extra hydrated skin.
Final thoughts
Overall I really love how my skin looks and my skin feels after using all of the Regenerist products. The Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Pre-Essence and Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Day Cream lived up to my expectations of previous trials, and I found that adding the Micro-Sculpting Night Cream into the mix really upped the ante on how soft my skin felt and how fresh it looked. I will say that if you have oilier skin, the face creams can feel a bit heavy, so you may have to test the waters to see if you need both the day cream and the night cream.
