Weird but brilliant

Margot Robbie may be down to try everything from yellow eyeshadow to burgundy lipstick in the makeup department, but one thing always remains consistent: her flawless face of foundation. Her base always strikes the perfect balance between naturally glossy and perfectly polished. Goals, huh?
With that in mind, you can probably understand why Robbie spilling a foundation hack is the equivalent of a beauty lover's Christmas; in other words, it's pretty damn exciting. We were even more excited to find out that said hack utilises a bathroom product that we all already own (although honestly, you might want to grab yourself a new one if you're planning to use it for this).
“When I put on foundation, I use an eyebrow brush or toothbrush to brush it into my hairline so that it all blends," she told ELLE. "Especially because I have blonde hair but tanned skin, if I don’t blend it, it looks gross – you can see the foundation in my hair."
“I do that every single day, and every time my husband is like, “What are you doing?”, and I say, “I’m brushing my makeup into my hairline!”, and he’s like, “Girls are crazy.” Well, what some call crazy, we call genius...
We know what you're thinking though: it's not just her hairline blend that looks great. Luckily, Robbie's go-to makeup artist Pati Dubroff also dropped some widsom re: base application in a chat with Glamour. Her personal mantra? It's all in the prep.
“Skin is everything; I mean everything," she shared. "I’ll spend more time on the skin than the makeup. Skin care prep makes it look more alive, so you’re not having to fake it with [heavy] foundation. I’ll pop on a sheet mask, [then] when the mask comes off, then it’s all about the massage.”
"Fingers are your always-on tools that you can rely on. Just get in there with fingers and carve along the cheekbones on the pressure points and it will help move fluids from the under-eye area. Pressing down at either side of the bridge of the nose will also help shift any lymphatic fluids.”
Once you've got your skin glowing, there's one last prep step to master: primer. “I’ll put mattifying primer through the centre so that it reduces the need for powder and helps the foundation stick," said Dubroff.
The ultimate goal when applying foundation? "Skin [that] looks like skin." That definitely checks out, too; Robbie's base always looks the polar opposite of cakey. It doesn't hurt that Dubroff's go-to base is a silky, skin care-infused formula designed to seamlessly sink into the complexion: "I love the Suqqu liquid foundation," she confirmed.
And there you have it, a red carpet-worthy, Robbie-insired foundation routine. Now get to it, toothbrush in tow...
