Could this weird product be the new way to apply makeup?
Chicken fillets meet makeup sponge
When it comes to seamlessly blending foundation, three makeup tools have become heralded as the best options to rotate between: brushes, fingers and sponges, the last of which has soared in popularity in recent years, largely thanks to the success of the beautyblender.
One new beauty product is attempting to supersede those traditional makeup sponges and comes in the form of the SiliSponge. The ‘sponge,’ created by makeup brand Molly Cosmetics is a clear and smooth makeup applicator that promises to blend foundation across the skin while only using half the amount of product you would ordinarily use with other sponges – and yes, it does look remarkably like a bra insert!
On first impressions the SiliSponge appears a tad gimmicky, however Molly Cosmetics have released a number of videos to their Instagram that showcase the sponge at work. It shows the tool blending foundation and cream products smoothly into the skin, so it could be a good option for those who don’t like applying foundation with their fingers or are finding their traditional makeup sponges soak up too much product.
Additionally, the SiliSponge promises to eliminate the lengthy chore of cleaning makeup brushes as Molly Cosmetics say it can be washed by “rubbing it with a little soap and rinsing with some lukewarm water.”
As the tool has only been released in recent weeks, the jury is still out as to whether we’ll be replacing our traditional makeup sponges with the unique SiliSponge. If you’d like to try the new release for yourself, you’ll have to wait a while, as it’s currently sold out online but a re-stock is set for 6th January next year.
