If there’s one thing Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Gigi Hadid and Shay Mitchell have in common, it’s perfectly flawless/freakin’ unreal skin that makes us wonder if they’re actually human.
They’re often spotted wearing minimalistic makeup looks that work to accentuate an ultra dewy and radiant complexion – you know, the natural ‘no makeup’ makeup trend that seems to be ALL the rage right now? Just look here, here and here.
So when celebrity makeup artist (and king of glowing skin) Patrick Ta dishes out tips on how you can copy these A-listers’ skin care and makeup games, you’re going to bet we scrambled to grab a pen and paper.
In a recent post on Rosie’s website Rose Inc., Ta reveals the key products and techniques he uses for nabbing that radiant finish so you can get the look, too.
As you would guess, the key to flawless makeup starts by putting in the effort before you even reach for your foundation. Ta says, “Allowing your face to sit in a sheet mask prior to your event always helps.” If you're looking to try something a little luxurious we recommend the La Mer The Hydrating Facial.
He adds, “The more plump your skin is, the better it will photograph, and the better makeup will look on your skin. So you can actually put on a little bit more makeup, but look like you’re wearing less.”
As for his go-to makeup products and tools, it seems that Ta has a surprisingly simple combination of affordable and luxury products in his beauty kit to achieve that natural-looking base we are currently seeing EVERYWHERE.
His top tool for a precise and even foundation application is actually a cult favourite – it’s none other than the iconic beautyblender. These little gems buff everything out seamlessly, making for an effortlessly blended complexion, so we can totally relate.
For the all-important highlighting step, Ta reaches for either Maybelline New York Total Temptation Eyeshadow and Highlight Palette (read what our members have to say about this product) or Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Palette. Both palettes feature a neat little combination of highlighting and shading options, which makes sculpting and contouring the face an absolute cinch.
For bigger, brighter eyes (minus the need for layer upon layer of mascara), Ta recommends using a Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler because “it opens wide, so I can get all of the lashes.”
