‘Lip oil nails’ are the glossiest mani trend of 2023
A perfect marriage between a lip balm, lip tint and a lip gloss, lip oils have managed to supplant all other lip products in our makeup kits.
So it should come as no surprise that the glossy sheen of the viral Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil has influenced other aspects of our beauty regimens, such as our nails.
The modern equivalent of the ‘lips and tips’ trend of the ‘50s, the lip oil nail trend is the kind of minimalist monochromatic manicure look we can really get behind.
Want to get glossy from head to toe? Nail expert at Nails.co.uk, Liana Thomson, shares her tips ahead…
How to get glossy lip oil nails
"The aim of a lip oil manicure is to get the same shine and glossiness that you get from a lip oil but on the nails,” says Thomson. “After preparing your nails by buffing, filing and trimming your cuticles, choose your base colour carefully.”
Thomson recommends opting for a shade that matches your favourite lip oil such as a “neutral, pink or red” and using “a translucent/sheer nail varnish for [the] base coat”.
“[However,] if you do not have a sheer varnish and you want to keep costs low and avoid buying new products, apply a thin coat of your standard opaque varnish so you can still see through your nail slightly” — just like a lip oil.
Once the coats of coloured nail polish have dried you can “finish the look off with one or two layers of an ultra-glossy topcoat.”
Want to try this trend but don’t know where to start when it comes to nude nails? These are the exact nail polish shades celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt uses to create Hailey Bieber’s nude manicures.
