Everything in Lady Gaga's Coachella makeup bag

"This makeup look was all about balance"

Lady Gaga excels in a number of areas.

The multihyphenate doesn't just sing, dance, and act — she's also responsible for founding one of the best makeup brands of the last decade.

So, when the Haus Labs founder took to the Coachella stage for almost two hours on the first night of the desert music festival, we weren't just enjoying her performance, we were seeing how a full face of Haus Labs makeup held up in such extreme conditions.

Not because we were being nosey, but because this was to be an important reconnaissance mission that would later influence the purchases we will be making when Haus Labs launches into Sephora in Australia on May 1st

Suffice to say Gaga's makeup held up through physically demanding bouts of choreography, tear jerking piano ballads, and the dry, windy conditions of the Palm Springs desert with unimaginable ease.

What Makeup Was Lady Gaga Wearing On Stage At Coachella?

To say we took off to find details of the look on Sarah Tanno's Instagram after the singer's Coachella set concluded would be an understatement. And the Haus Labs Global Artistry Director and Gaga's long time makeup artist did not disappoint. Not only did she share a full product breakdown of the look, she also shared a sweet message about the once in a lifetime experience.

"This makeup look was all about balance — dark and light, grounded and ethereal. For MAYHEM we wanted something that could move effortlessly between both sides of Gaga: the raw chaos of Mayhem and the otherworldly beauty of her ethereal self," Tanno explained. "I’m endlessly proud of you Lady Gaga. Watching this vision unfold was a masterclass in art, heart, and transformation. Thank you for trusting me with your face, your story, and being part of your universe."

"Thank you Haus Labs and my amazing makeup team for taking such great care of all the performers," she went on to say in a follow up post. "You worked weeks prepping, dreaming and learning. Thank you for being so open and pouring your love and positivity into this performance. It’s a dream of mine to spend time with artists and I’ve had the best time creating with you. To many more dreams."

The Base

To achieve Gaga's ethereal porcelain complexion Tanno laid down a base of the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Triclone Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation in the shade '70' ($92 from Haus Labs). Then she minimised darkness under the singer's eyes with the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + De-Puffing Concealer in the shade '6' ($60 from Haus Labs), and set everything down with the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Bio-Blurring Loose Setting Powder in 'Translucent' ($71 from Haus Labs).

The Cheeks

Tanno opted for subtle definition over traditionally heavy-handed stage makeup, using the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Power Sculpt Velvet Bronzer in 'Soleil Sand Fair' ($71 from Haus Labs) on the eyes and contours of Lady Gaga's cheeks. She added further dimension by tapping the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Bio-Radiant Gel-Powder Highlighter in 'Moonstone' ($75 from Haus Labs) on to the eye lids and the top of the cheekbones.

The Lips

Tanno reached into the Haus Labs archive to bring Gaga's wet-look red lip to life, the makeup artist used the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer in 'Ruby Shine', which she assures fans will be getting restocked in the not too distant future. Then she topped the lacquer lipstick with the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Hy-Power Pigment Paint in 'Burgundy Shimmer' ($45 from Haus Labs) for a metallic shine finish.

The Eyes

Lady Gaga and Tanno always manage to create some of our favourite eye makeup looks, even when they're pared back, simple and elegant like the balanced look the duo created for Coachella.

Tanno used the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Optic Intensity Eco Eyeliner in the shades 'White Onyx Matte' and 'Black Onyx Matte' ($41 from Haus Labs), and the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga Clear Cut Liquid Eyeliner ($49 from Haus Labs) to define Gaga's eyes and enhance their shape without overwhelming the overall makeup look. Then to finish, she coated the singer's lashes with a few layers of the Haus Labs By Lady Gaga B Structural Volumizing + Lengthening Mascara ($54 from Haus Labs).
