As one of Australia's most famous and beautiful faces, it's easy to imagine Jesinta Franklin's glowing complexion fits the same description. Since the model was crowned Miss Universe Australia at the age of 19, her skin has been at the forefront of every campaign, runway and magazine shoot of her career.
But Franklin recently opened up, speaking of her experience with breakouts throughout her 20s. "I had breakouts so bad that sometimes I wouldn't leave my house," she revealed. "It had such an impact on my confidence and took me a good two and a half years to get over."
Despite the help of dermatologists and facialists, Franklin said it was a combination of time, her diet and delving into ingredients that eventually saw her spots fade.
"I can definitely say that less is more, and it's more about what you do at home than what you get done at a spa or clinic," she said.
"I went through a phase where I was having a facial every single week, because that's what [I was being] told was going to work. And then, when I stopped doing that and took control of it myself—started doing proper skincare and focusing on diet—that's when it worked itself out.
Franklin's 'less is more' skincare approach has continued from her early 20s to this day, with the model sticking to no more than three steps each morning and evening. A new addition, however, is retinol. "This is the first time I've tried retinol as I was too scared to try it before," she shared.
The 28-year-old is easing into it, starting by using Olay's Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Eye Cream. "My eyes are probably my main concern at the moment, with the lack of sleep that I'm getting, and that's where I'm going to be able to see the results the quickest."
Franklin welcomed daughter Tullulah back in February, and also spoke of how pregnancy changed her skin. "Throughout pregnancy my skin became quite oily, but now that we're coming into winter, I'm finding my skin is drying out," she said.
"Actually the one product I used a lot during my pregnancy, and I think it stopped me getting pigmentation, is the Olay Tone Perfecting Treatment."
As for finding the time to complete a little self care with a newborn, Franklin says it doesn't get much better these days than a cup of tea and a ten-minute sheet mask. Although pre-motherhood, the model did enjoy indulging in a gua sha massage.
"I loved using [a rose quartz gua sha], especially after a mask at night time, or even in the morning to de-puff your face and drain away the fluids."
