Copy Karlie Kloss’ DVF curls
Good news: The TRESemmé how-to works on fine hair, too!
While some may be into dishevelled waves, the Holy Grail of hairstyles for others (especially those with naturally straight or fine hair) is curls. And not just any curls, but big voluminous ones.
We caught up with Orlando Pita, TRESemmé Hair Director for NYFW, after he’d tended to the locks of Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss for DVF A/W 16, to find out just how he got Karlie’s naturally fine and straight hair to look so fabulous.
In a nutshell he said, “Mousse, spray, more spray, more mousse and a really small-barrelled curling iron.”
But seeing as that may not be enough info for you to transform your hair, here are the steps you can follow to achieve the 70s-inspired curls.
1
Add mousse for volume
Apply a golf-ball sized amount of TRESemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Sea Foam to dry and comb through with your fingers. Once the mousse is applied, rough-dry your hair with a hairdryer.
2
Spray for hold
Once your hair is dry, use TRESemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray all over to give your hair extra hold and grip.
3
Section your hair and curl
Clip most of your hair on top of your head and begin curling from the bottom layer. From this layer, you’ll be taking small sections – about 1-2cm in width – and wrapping them around a conical wand. If you want to create a looser curl, you can take larger sections.
Once your hair is wrapped around the wand, hold for about 10 seconds, and slide the wand out.
4
Keep curling
Continue curling the bottom layer of hair in the same way, and once the layer is complete, unpin another layer from the top, repeating the process until you have tight ringlets all over.
When it comes to the top section of hair, start creating the curl a few centimetres away from the root.
5
Brush out the curls
Using a wide-tooth comb, gently brush through the curls to soften them without causing your hair to become too fuzzy. Don’t worry about the comb snagging because of the hairspray – it’s been formulated to be quite flexible, so brushing should be easy.
If the look is still too curly for you, brush out again.
6
Give it one last spray
Give one last spray of hairspray for guaranteed hold, and you’re good to go!
