3 steps to wash your hair properly
Let’s go back to the basics
We’ve all been shampooing and conditioning our hair since before we can remember, so we’ve got the routine down-pat, right? Maybe not. If your hair isn’t as glossy or lustrous as you’d like, then you may need to go back to the basics. Hairstylist Chris Naselli shares the three steps everyone needs to follow for beautiful, healthy hair.
1
Choose the right formula
“Always select products that are nourishing,” says Naselli. “Some shampoos contain heavy detergents that strip natural oils. Products like the TRESemmé Botanique Shampoo and Conditioner do the exact opposite –they hydrate and don’t leave any build-up.”
2
Shampoo and condition correctly
“Use a five-cent piece-sized amount of shampoo and create a lather at the roots, working your way down to the ends, then rinse. Next apply conditioner, just from the mid-lengths to the ends, ensuring you blast it with cold water to seal the hair cuticle.”
3
Add a final hit of hydration
Post-wash, apply a leave-in conditioner: “It aids with detangling and preps the hair for styling. A wide-tooth comb [like ghd Detangling Comb] will detangle and distribute the product evenly.”
There's just one more step you should consider doing about once a week - find out what the vital step missing from your hair care routine is.
