The product

Our friends over in the US have been frothing over Dove’s dry shampoos for years, and finally the revitalising and cleansing formula has hit our shores. Besides the fact that the ‘flakes’ in the formula (technically starch) bind to the grease, oil and dirt in your hair, and help remove them when your hair is brushed, the lightweight powder also works to volumise and texturise hair between washes. Sounds great right? Our panel of Review Crew® testers put the Dove Refresh & Care Dry Shampoo to the test.

The panel

We sent Dove Refresh & Care Dry Shampoo to women aged between 25 and 54 who were concerned with excess oiliness and greasiness and needed to either refresh day-old hair, or add an extra day or two before needing to wash their hair.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about the Dove Dry Shampoo: 

The oil-absorbing results: Overall, Review Crew® members were impressed with how well Dove Refresh & Care Dry Shampoo worked to refresh dirty hair and oily roots without weighing down hair or leaving hair feeling ‘crunchy’ or dry. Testers also commented that they found their hair had added volume (especially at the roots) after using the dry shampoo. 

The fresh scent: While not all testers loved the scent, the majority appreciated the fresh, subtle and powder Dove fragrance of the dry shampoo. 

The lack of powdery residue: Members noticed that the Dove Dry Shampoo formulation left little to no powdery and white residue, meaning there wasn’t as much to brush out, or much fussing to be done to have hair looking ready to go for the day. 

The verdict

“Love, love, love, love. Smells lovely, not overpowering. Works great - from oil slick to clean in minutes. No powdery residue, no stickiness, easy to brush/comb through. Great for adding volume, refreshing sweaty fringes - almost a perfect product. All you need to do is make a purse size and it would be perfection!”

“The stand-out thing about the product is that it does not leave you with a white powdery substance (like you have dandruff basically) when sprayed. It worked really well in making my hair look fresh, and after a few hours the volume in my hair stayed but it was very flexible and natural. I loved how my hair felt the next day, it felt natural and clean, to be honest I forgot I had any product in it at all.”
