6 of our favourite natural Australian brands
From skin care and fake tan to makeup to organic haircare, we’ve got all bases covered
Not so long ago, natural beauty involved little more than placing two slices of cucumber on your eyes to de-puff and using mashed avocado as a DIY hair mask.
Fast forward a few years and natural beauty products have become some of the biggest players in the industry. No longer is there the misconception that natural (or organic) ingredients means compromising on product efficacy.
Instead, we’re harnessing the seemingly endless benefits from nature’s ingredients, and enjoying a new era that has seen a wealth of brands formulate natural, organic and eco-friendly products that deliver serious results – and some of them proudly have their origins here in Australia.
Here, we walk you through six of our favourites.
Sukin
Sukin’s extensive range of vegan and cruelty-free skin care, body and hair care products are created using high quality botanical extracts and essential oils, with each product specifically formulated to treat your concerns. But don’t be fooled into thinking that top performance translates into top dollar. One of the biggest draw cards about Sukin is its competitive price point, so stocking up on several of its cult products won’t break the bank.
Our product pick: Sukin Purely Ageless Hydration Elixir
Nude by Nature
With a commitment to producing 100 per cent naturally derived and cruelty-free makeup products, Nude by Nature is serious about its philosophy of creating cosmetics that are good for you. Formulated with some of Australia’s best native ingredients (think Kakadu plum and quandong), as well as nourishing jojoba and vitamin E, the brand promises to deliver high quality products that provide benefits that go well beyond flawless finishes.
Our product pick: Nude by Nature Touch of Glow Highlighting Stick
Lanolips
Touted as one of the best lip balm formulas by beauty editors and alike, Lanolips’ nourishing products are a handbag essential for anyone suffering from dry, cracked and sore lips. The secret behind the brand’s success? The star ingredient, lanolin. While admittedly Lanolin doesn’t sound like a particularly sexy ingredient (it’s a fatty substance found in sheep’s wool), it’s a winner when it comes to effectively nourishing and moisturising skin. The ingredient’s molecular structure closely mimics that of human skin lipids, which means once it penetrates the skin, it’s able to hold up to 400 times its weight in water.
Our product pick: Lanolips 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm
JONNY+JUNE
Created by one of Sydney’s top hairdressers and stylists, Simon Bright, JONNY+JUNE features a range of Australian-made, vegan and organic products that have been specifically formulated for those with coloured hair to leave it it nourished and soft.
Our product pick: JONNY+JUNE Original Balm
Eco Tan
After becoming concerned about the chemicals present in many spray tan formulas, Sonya Driver made history in 2011 by creating the first and only tanning brand to be certified organic in Australia. Free from artificial orange dyes and formulated with cacao, flower essences and chamomile (as well as many more skin-loving ingredients), Eco Tan’s range of products work to create long-lasting, natural-looking colour, without any of the nasties.
Our product pick: Eco Tan Face Tan Water
etchðos
etchðos is an Aussie-made brand on a milk bottle mission. Its body wash and lotion range is housed in packaging made from recycled milk bottles so that your everyday essentials don't have to cost the planet. Sustainable and seriously good-smelling, its body washes are made from 94 per cent naturally derived ingredients that are ethically sourced and vegan-friendly. The hardest decision you'll have to make is choosing a scent.
