And you don’t even need a hot tool
There’s a reason why top celebs like Lauren Conrad, Mila Kunis and Gal Gadot hold such a special place in our hearts. Besides their confidence in front of the camera and enviable red carpet style, these leading ladies always seem to have perfect-looking hair. And by that we mean cool, casual and undone texture that boasts voluminous roots, which is something that may look incredibly easy to do (like you’ve just rolled out of bed with it looking like that), but can be tricky to achieve without a lot of effort.
While there’s no singular correct way to achieve the undone look, your go-to method is probably to prep your hair with product (be it a heat protectant, primer or something that will give it hold), then go in with a hairdryer as you wrap pieces of hair around a brush and build volume by pulling the roots away from the scalp. We’re exhausted just thinking about it.
But what do you do when you don’t have a hairdryer on hand, or you’re not ambidextrous enough to handle a hot tool and round brush in each hand?
Jon Pulitano, Redken Hair Director for the Aje Resort 18/19 show, recently told us exactly how we can achieve effortless volume without looking over the top, and that covetable hint of natural texture: “You can create a very natural kind of texture by spraying some Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray into hair, and then just flatten down the roots a little bit when you tuck the hair behind the ear so it doesn’t jump out [too much]. This method gives you hold but it doesn’t stick the hair [completely] down. Then, you can use a medium-hold hairspray underneath the hair so that it all sits really nicely.”
While most root-lifting sprays are designed to be used on damp hair, you can use this one on dry hair - just wait for the product to air-dry for a more natural-result, instead of using a hairdryer to set the style.
We think this method is perfect for those with fine hair who find most styling products leave their hair looking weighed down, and is a real time-saver if you’re looking to add oomph to limp hair, quick smart.
