How to nail Hailey Bieber's cinnamon donut manicure
A festive take on the beauty mogul's signature nail look
In 2022, Hailey Bieber rocked our worlds with the birth of Rhode Skin and it's glazed donut aesthetic.
But Bieber didn't just affect the way we looked at our skin. With the help of her nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt, the beauty brand founder introduced us to the chrome-covered glazed donut manicure.
Hailey Bieber's nails have been a million shades since, colour co-ordinated with each new Rhode Skin release, of course. And, more recently, Ganzorigt has put a fresh spin on the confectionary-inspired look, drawing inspiration from the warming spices synonymous with the Northern hemisphere's festive season.
Introducing: cinnamon donut nails.
What is a cinnamon donut manicure?
Unlike the aforementioned glazed donut manicure, its cinnamon counterpart doesn't require a chrome powder to create a light-reflecting finish. Instead, a cat eye nail polish is sandwiched between two coats of a chocolate brown polish for a touch of glitter and movement.
If you weren't aware, cat eye nail polish is iron-based, which means you can manipulate the final appearance after applying it using a magnet. Once the desired finish has been achieved, all you need to do is set the polish under a UV lamp. Different shades of gel polish can be layered underneath or over the top of cat eye nail polish as well to further change the colour and finish. So, if you're planning on recreating this look at home you'll need a few tools to get you on the right path, like a Nail Art Cat Eye Magnet Stick ($8.99 from Amazon Australia), a UV LED Nail Lamp ($35.99 from Amazon Australia), and a Gel Base Coat ($29.70 from Amazon Australia).
How to recreate Hailey Bieber's cinnamon donut manicure
Once you've acquired all the kit you'll need to successfully D.I.Y a cat eye manicure at home, there are a few items you'll need specifically for pulling off the cinnamon donut look.
After you've applied and cured your Gel Base Coat ($29.70 from Amazon Australia) under a UV LED Nail Lamp ($35.99 from Amazon Australia), you'll need to apply a sheer layer of a chocolate brown gel polish to the nail. Bieber's nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt, used OPI's Cliffside Karaoke, which is a salon-only product, but we rate Vishine Gel Nail Polish in 'Dark Chocolate' ($9.99 from Amazon Australia) for a similar effect. Don't forget to cure it under UV light before you apply your next coat of polish.
Next, Ganzorigt mixed together OPI's Super Gloss No Wipe Top Coat (also a salon-only product), a velvet magnifying loose powder, and some of OPI's Cliffside Karaoke to create a custom cat eye shade. But you can achieve the same result from combining a bit of Vishine Gel Nail Polish in 'Dark Chocolate' ($9.99 from Amazon Australia) and BLUESKY Silver Cat Eye Gel Nail Polish ($14.69 from Amazon Australia) on a Stainless Steel Cosmetic Makeup Palette ($9.99 from Amazon Australia). Once combined, you can apply the custom colour to the nail using a nail brush (we like to recycle and clean the applicators from old nail polish bottles for this purpose), and set under a UV lamp.
Once your custom cat eye layer has cured, you can apply a second and final coat of your chocolate brown polish to marry all the layers together. Cure this final chocolate layer, top it with a gel top coat ($8.99 from Amazon Australia), and cure that too. Then et voila, a festive set of cinnamon donut nails.
