And sadly, her nose job regret

Bella Hadid's face has long been a topic of discussion. Because that's the tricky thing about the Internet; it feels the need (and the right) to dissect and discuss the appearance of anyone with a public profile.
It's hard to get much more 'public' than Hadid; she's risen the ranks over the years to become one of the world's most inimitable models. And yet social media noise continues to spread the narrative that she somehow doesn't deserve her accolades because she 'bought her face'.
Well, Hadid has now confirmed that that's actually untrue. She's had one procedure, a nose job she underwent at the ripe age of 14. Unfortunately it’s a decision she still regrets. “I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors,” she confessed in a conversation with Vogue. “I think I would have grown into it."
"People think I fully f*cked with my face because of one picture of me as a teenager looking puffy," she went on to say. "I’m pretty sure you don’t look the same now as you did at 13, right? I have never used filler. Let’s just put an end to that. I have no issue with it, but it’s not for me. Whoever thinks I’ve gotten my eyes lifted or whatever it’s called—it’s face tape! The oldest trick in the book."
And with that, the Internet has the answer it's so desperately waited for. However, we happen to think that the real question here is this: what kind of pressure makes a literal teenager feel the need to undergo such a surgery when they were beautiful to begin with?
Hadid opened up about just that, too. “I was the uglier sister. I was the brunette. I wasn’t as cool as Gigi, not as outgoing,” she recalled. “That’s really what people said about me. And unfortunately when you get told things so many times, you do just believe it."
She says the analysis of her appearance lead to feelings of not being worthy of her giant accomplishments, despite putting the work in. "I’ve had this impostor syndrome where people made me feel like I didn’t deserve any of this. People always have something to say, but what I have to say is, I’ve always been misunderstood in my industry and by the people around me.”
We're guessing it's for that reason (and the fact that, as she mentioned, the Internet rips apart the few pics of her pre-procedure in an attempt to 'prove' the work she's had done) that Hadid only seems to share either baby pics or ones with her new nose. For example, she recently shared a "15 yr old Me" photo dump, by which time she would have fully recovered from the rhinoplasty surgery.
So what's the takeaway here? Well, if you ask us, it's sad that A) Hadid felt the pressure to get a nose job at such a young age and B) that society basically bullied her into admitting it when she was clearly reluctant to talk about it.
Because here's the thing: as we've seen, the celebs who people deem 'should' have a nose job are criticised for not getting one (something that Lea Michele, for example, has openly spoken about) and those like Hadid who do (because again, the world made them feel like they needed to) are shamed as well.
Yes, it's a tricky topic considering that Hadid's perfect face has the ironic ability to cause a ripple effect of comparison and leave women feeling less than because they don't look like her, just like she felt when being compared to her sister. But at the same time, it's Hadid's face and it's her right to do what makes her feel the most confident. Transparency re: transformative procedures is helpful when you find yourself comparing, sure, but is it really anyone's responsibility to share if they're not comfortable?
We just wish Hadid had the chance to come into her confidence on her own, rather than feeling the need to make big decisions so young. Perhaps then she would have been able to make an informed enough call to not still feel regret about it all these years later. But hey, at the end of the day she was gorgeous then and she's gorgeous now. Live and learn, right?
