The mascara Alicia Keys swears by for that no-makeup makeup look
Alicia Keys is the queen of the low-maintenance, no-makeup makeup look. Providing an endearing juxtaposition to the glamour of the music industry, she chooses to flaunt her natural beauty on every red carpet, and we are so here for it.
Now, we don’t know about you but our everyday makeup routine has changed somewhat due to quarantine, and has become a lot more Alicia Keys-esque than it used to be. We’re finding ourselves reaching for lightweight complexion correcting bases, hydrating, balmy textures on the cheeks and lips, and a subtle eye look that naturally accentuates without the need for eyeshadow or liner.
So, naturally, when Alicia revealed her go-to mascara recently in an interview with InStyle, we were all ears. “Chanel mascara in brown,” she told the publication. More specifically, the classic Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara.
It’s no wonder this little guy has made it on the singer’s list of current obsessions, with a lash-plumping formula and a wand that combines long and short bristles, Le Volume De Chanel promises that wide-eyed, fresh-faced look Alicia is so well known for.
Follow Alicia’s lead and pair subtle brown lashes with a fresh face and some paw paw lip balm (another one of her cult-fave beauty buys) and you’re good to go.
Not all celeb beauty routines are as straightforward as Alicia’s. Here are the weird, wacky and kinda gross beauty treatments celebs rely on to stay looking their best.

Briar Clark got her start in the media industry in 2017, as an intern for Marie Claire and InStyle. Since then, her keen interest in fashion and beauty has landed her gigs as a Digital Content Producer and Beauty Editor with titles like Girlfriend, Refinery29, BEAUTYcrew and beautyheaven. She loves the way seemingly innocuous topics like skin care and style have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces or make them think about themselves a little differently. A big believer in self love and experimentation, Briar has made a point of becoming the Australian beauty industry’s unofficial guinea pig for unusual treatments and daring hair trends. When she’s not testing out the latest beauty launches, Briar is big on broadening her horizons, mostly in the form of food but she’s also partial to travelling to new destinations both near and far (and of course, allocating an extra bag to bring their best beauty offerings home with her).
