4 things you need to know before your at-home massage

The simple steps that will help you unwind in peace
There is perhaps no better way to relax after a hard day, week, month or year than with a massage. However, the unfortunate reality is that many of us simply lack the time to indulge in a pamper session.
Thankfully, heading into a beauty salon isn’t your only option. A more convenient option is to have a massage therapist come to you. Blys, Australia’s fastest growing mobile massage company does just that: they deliver quality massages in the comfort of your own home.
Intrigued? So were we!
The system works by enabling you to book a mobile massage via the Blys app (or website), which in turn will see a qualified massage therapist arrive on your doorstep for a 60, 90 or 120-minute session, depending on what you choose.
Sounds perfect, right?! If you’ve never had an at-home massage before and are worried about the protocol and how to prep, we spoke to Blys founder Ilter Dumduz who revealed the top four things you need to know before you book.
1
Make sure to shower
While the name of the at-home massage game is to limit the effort it takes to unwind, Dumduz has a couple of tips to ensure your massage experience runs as smoothly as possible.
“Taking a shower or a bath before the therapy session will allow you to be more comfortable and laidback by the time the massage therapist arrives. Having said that, nobody is expecting you to shave your legs or trim you beard,” Dumduz explains.
2
Be on time
Dumduz notes that “Massage therapists, particularly mobile massage therapists tend to be on a tight schedule.” So it’s important to make sure you’re on time and ready for your massage as soon as your therapist arrives at your door. “Make sure the room you wish for them to set up in is ready (more about this in step four!), that there is no food on the stove that needs your immediate attention and that children and pets are taken care of,” Dumduz says.
3
Dress comfortably
If you’re concerned about what is and isn’t appropriate attire before your massage, Dumduz says the most important thing is to be comfortable. “You determine you own level of comfort when disrobing, but typically you’ll undress to your underwear.”
It’s also important to note, “our massage therapists are trained to give you the privacy to undress and dress; they simply step outside the room briefly and come back in when you’re ready. The utmost respect is also given in regards to draping throughout the massage to ensure private areas are never exposed,” Dumduz adds.
4
Prep the room
The good news is that there is very little you need to do to prep your home ahead of your massage. Massage therapists will “bring everything needed for a perfect home massage: professional table, fresh sheets/towels, natural oil and soothing music,” says Dumduz. In fact, all you need worry about is ensuring the therapist has enough space to set up their table, which is ideally about 1m x 2m.
